It was looking a little lean in the Cruzbike Chicks recruiting department. After days of poring over the roster for racers, it appeared that we would be a team of three. Emily, Connie, and Rick were not despondent, discouraged, dismayed, or downhearted — or even dismal or depressed. We were positive that with the famous Chick teamwork we could reach our racing goals —finish course in 1h15min or less, catch those Wiley Coyotes, and fend off the mighty Gorillaz. It would not be an easy task. Of course, it never is. Lining up in the pen Rick noticed smoke coming out of Connie’s ears. “Hey! You got a fire in your belly?” “Actually I read where eating fire is good for 50 extra watts. I’m feeling the burn already!” Meanwhile Emily was downing a quite refreshing drink as her motion potion. “I call it ‘Sand and Sequoias.’ Guaranteed to perk up the system.” And we were off!
Coyotes flew out of the pen at a good clip. They weren’t going down without a fight. Pedal on you speedsters. Make us work! They did. Meanwhile at the end of the line, the Gorillaz were concocting their own battle plan. We had to resist the urge to glance back at them as they slowly closed the gap. Hope was beginning to wane. Rick knew it was time to rally the troops. “Chicks, it’s time to pull out all the stops. Put the pedal to the metal. All engines on high speed. Go fast!” That was all it took. Connie and Emily heeded the call, put their heads down, pedaled like crazy, and never looked back. Rick led the charge, pulling like he had never pulled before.
When the dust settled and we could all breathe again, the results told the story. Coyotes were passed after much serious effort. Pleasantries were exchanged as they vowed to never let us pass again. Gorillaz raced like champions but couldn’t quite close the gap. Well done Chicksters!
In honor of the occasion, the Chicks will be singing “the Sand and Sequoia Song — to the the tune of the Pina Colada Song.
If you like Sand and Sequoias, going fast in the race,
pullin’ strong up the hillside, steppin’up with your pace,
If you like leaping flames of fire coming off of your wheel,
You might just be a Chickster. Make it fun. Make it real.
Always room for another Chick!
