DT Swiss RWS Tandem Steel 145mm with Aluminum Lever (Skewer)

I'm embarrassed to ask this but perhaps it may help someone else.

I just purchased a DT Swiss RWS Tandem Steel 145mm with Aluminum Lever (Skewer) to replace the bent skewer I have on my front wheel. Previously, when changing my front tire/tube, I noticed that my current front skewer had no springs on it (my rear skewer however, does).

Since this is my first Cruzbike, I just assumed that this was normal. My question is, is this in fact, normal? Do I need to use the springs on the front skewer?

TIA

Do not need springs on the drive wheel skewer. Springs are used to help a wheel clear the dropouts when you loosen the skewer, such as in the Cruzbike non-drive wheel. You have to fully remove the drive wheel skewer so springs would just be in the way.

Thanks for the response...I knew there had to be an answer that made sense. :)

Doug, thanks!!!
I will remove my springs from my Silvio V1.0 front wheel, as the nut spring is a pain trying to not loose it when changing a tyre!!!
This is what I like about the Cruzbike Forum!!!

This is correct - no springs. They are only to center the skewer on a typical wheel to make removal/install easier for convenience - they have no other function. Sice the front has to be removed all the way they are only a PITA. :)
