I must say that Doug's

I must say that Doug's professional CV in this field is awesome. Most likely better in this field than any judge has seen before.

Wow.  Just wow.  She should

Wow. Just wow. She should be severely punished. They should take away her license, take her car, sell it and give you all the money. Wow.

-Is suddenly way more "interesting" -thanks to the cage driver that taco'd Mr. Winn's V,
not to mention rearranging his life!

I realise that the Vendetta is not for everyone, so, as public service, allow me to offer
my garage as the new home for your unwanted, unloved, un-ridable Vendetta.
You're welcome.

Everyone has responded to the concerns that fastpastprime has raised, so
I thought to add my bit of praise concerning the seat cushions supplied by Cruzbike.

I'm still riding on my original seat cushions and covers, the ones that came stock on my trusty
old Sofrider V1.
The covers get washed -lathered and hosed off- about twice a year... and the covers look
really well preserved.
No obvious wear and no rips in the fabric.

The velcro that secures the cushions to the seat pan works fine and has worked fine for
years.
I have every confidence in the ability of the velcro to secure the seat pans of the Vendetta
to the frame and to keep doing it's job for years to come.
The only failure point I can see coming, regarding the velcro, is that the adhesive that secures
the velcro to the FRP seat pan may fail in the future.
The velcro itself works brilliantly and will work well for years to come.

Finally, I find the Cruzbike seat to be very comfortable.
Now, I've built my own personalised seat... based on the original Cruzbike seat...
and MY seat is incredibly comfortable, even without the factory Cruzbike seat cushions installed.
In fact, I exercise my bike on the trainer with the seat cushions removed, so that
they don't get soaked with sweat!

So sorry about your loss, Mr. Winn.
I'm happy to see that you're still riding though: keep on grinning!

Bike Accident

Eric, as bikers, you went through what we all fear and it certainly could have been much worst. Glad to hear you are still riding.

I have 3 different bikes and each has it's own designed seat. My original short wheel recumbent is about 6 years old and I never got a recumbent butt while riding. I have about 2500 miles on the Cruzbike and it tool me at least 500 miles before I could ride more than a half hour without getting off because my butt hurt so much. The Catrike, tadpole is like setting in a hammock, you can ride all day and never have a problem. If the seat on my original recumbent was adjustable I would put it on the Cruzbike as it's much more comfortable.

I love the seatcushions on my

I love the seatcushions on my Quest 1.0. They are easy to clean and show no signs of wear after 10,000 miles (and lots and lots of sweating). However, something about the bottom pan design isn't quite perfect for my body. After more than about 3 hours in the seat my tailbone and upper butt muscles start to hurt. It can get really painful, actually, but I can always pedal through it and eventually the pain fades.

Glad you are not hurt worse

Glad you are not hurt worse Eric. The road rash looks nasty! Poor you and V after your loving and painstaking build.

I second the motion to seek a full replacement especially as your bike is so new. In Jan a Mercedes ran a red light and hit me on my Brompton from the side. I am still waiting for court and insurance settlement, but certainly hope to receive more than just the banged up parts. Rest well and take lots of Alleve or Brufen! :)

From a repentant gorilla torquer.

Eric - Wow

Fastpastprime - As far as the Silvio/Vendetta seat pad, I agree that doesn't seem all that robust, BUT I kind of like that the cover has some slack/flex and moves around a bit, when I choose. I can adjust myself and don't feel that I'm stuck to the seat. I find that when I'm planted it doesn't move at all. Plus it is advertised as washable. Mine is already acumulating white salt lines,... >;-)

The build of of my Silvio was very straight forward and easy, intuitive even. Additionally, Eric, Ivan, and others have some very good Form posts out there that will help you along. I would certainly run the cables (housings at least) yourself. A bike shop will never get it "right",... if you are faint of heart you could have them fine-tune your shifting once you have things the way you like them.

Me, I've been riding with out my bars even taped up yet. I keep making adjustments to things until I get them the way I want.

Good luck all on your builds and learning.

Eric,

YIKES!!!! that is soooo scary!!! I've had only a few crashes on my DF bikes but am scared of them. My last occurred during a high speed turn when my front wheel encountered slick mud on the pavement from a truck spill and went out from under me, in a flash. I only remember waking up, saying to myself, "get out of the road or a log truck will run over you" and then a voice behind me asking if I needed help (of note I know no car was within a mile of that turn when I made it, so I must have been out, the corner was in the midst of wide open fields). I broke my wrist and crushed my R cheek bone, which was reconstructed with Ti scaffolding [to save weight >;-) ],... I must say, not a scratch on my bike,... All I can think is that I sacrificed my body (face) to save my bike,... >;-)

I ALWAYS wear bright-BRIGHT clothes (Yellow, florescent yellow or orange) when cycling,... blacks, blues, reds, greens DO NOT show up well. I even spray painted my helmet florescent orange.

In Oregon drivers are pretty good with bikes, but my buddies have had some run ins.

On my Silvio I installed a Serfas USL-TL60 LED 60 Lumen flashing tail light. It is blindingly bright and USB rechargeable. Cars have been slowing down and waiting behind me, then passing on the other side of the road.

Doug is right, if you can get a new machine that would be best, no telling if trueness is off by a fraction of a degree or something, which can be felt at times,... dedicate the original to the trainer,... I find that the few minutes saved not having to load the bike on the trainer gets me on it more often, no excuses to be made.

I wish you all the best in your recovery (body, mind, bike).

I haven't posted in about a month.
I haven't been keeping up with this site.
I am so sorry to hear about your knock down, Eric.
I have been making forays into aerodynamics with the Vendetta.
Pics next post under new thread.
