Fitting Question - S30

Hello all, 42" xseam guy here.

I'm trying to fit myself to an acquaintances S30, and I'm having issues. I have the boom all the way in, as that's the only way it fits my xseam. The issue that is created is that my middle thigh lightly taps on the handlebars. It's not a whole lot, but it makes riding it a little twitchy. Plus I don't think I get full power push because of it.

I tried lengthening the handlebar extension bracket (the top bracket) and added a 5mm spacer to the headset, but that doesn't really seem to help all that much. I just can't sem to get his right.

Any ideas? And I did look at the Cruzbik videos on adjusting for fitting, but that also doesn't seem to address this issue specifically.

Please post a picture from the side with your foot on the pedal at full extension and where the thigh hits the handlebar.

Shorter crank length will allow for a little more space. Let's see if I can say it in words using an example:
Shorten crank by 1 cm will bring the pedal 1 cm in closer at full extension, therefore
Move the boom farther out 1 cm to keep pedal in same place at full extension, therefore
Near pedal position is 2 cm further out giving you more space at the handlebars. My brain is a little mushy on the geometry calculations to say how much but if you can pedal with hitting the bar then 1 cm change in crank length could be enough to make the difference. If you live close enough to @LarryOz see if he can hook you up with his adjustable crank size testing rig, but beware he might convince you to rev those cranks in tiny little circles ;) and make ultracycling records.

Hello all, 42" xseam guy here.
My x-seam is about 40.5, and I ride an S30. I had similar issues with the thighs touching the handlebars, which were pretty well solved with 150 mm cranks.

If you haven't found my build thread for that bike already, click on the "S30" in my signature. It's full of trial and error, a few digressions , and hopefully some helpful hints from when I set my bike up a few years ago.

Thank you both for the recommendations. I will look into that option. Though this bike has Sram red hardware and I don't know if I have the heart to change it (does Sram Red have 150mm cranks?). Could I use a stem extender to raise the headset?

You probably won't find anything shorter than 165 mm in SRAM Red. My cranks are SRAM Apex, cut down by Mark Stonich of Bikesmith Design. I believe Cobb, among others, makes higher-end cranks in shorter sizes.

Yes, I've used a stem riser since I swapped the stock seat for a Thor seat. Here's how that went: https://forum.cruzbike.com/threads/thor-seat-on-s30v2-vs-handlebar-height.12520/
