Fixie

My son has been wanting a fixed gear. No job and no money makes it kind of hard to do. A friend of mine hooked him up with a frame he had laying around..... An old Dave Scott Ironman Centurion. Nice, steel lugged frame. I had some extra parts, so between the parts that came on the frame and what I had, we threw together a quicky fixie today. It came out pretty good and for a freebie (to my son) he's happy. The only thing there's any real money in is the wheelset and they were cheap

The cranks are too flexy for him, but I have a beefy set of Shimano 600 I can put on there. I rode it a little, but the frame is too big for me. It rides real nice.

Fixies are fun and easy to build. If you have leftover roadbike parts and frames lying around, they're cheap, too!

I very nearly set up the conversion as a Fixie before I got all my parts in. Now that I have some time in the saddle...I suspect it would be one of the few recumbents that could work properly as a Fixie (or better yet, as a single-speed).

So, perhaps a conversion kit on one of those little XS 14.5" hardtail frames with a set of 650c wheels/tires...yeah baby!
