I have just completed a 3000 km bike packing trip the length of New Zealand on a route called Tour of Aotearoa.
Going back to the original post of this thread my front derailleur worked flawlessly on the trip.
My bike weighed 30 kg fully loaded and with water. My gearing was 36/26 with 165 mm cranks and the stock 11 to 42 eleven speed cassette on the back with 26 inch wheels.
This gearing worked well for me . I spun out at around 40 km /hr and could climb with a loaded bike down to 4.5 km /hr. I actually preferred to push the bike when I got down to this pace.
I had some bags custom made for me at a bike packing bag shop. ( Stealth bike packing bags in Wellington ,NZ )
I used Ergon GP5 grips which have bar ends. I liked these as they enabled me to stretch my arms out straight and give an alternate hand position on long rides.
I also found a bungy cord with hooks on both ends very handy. I used this to secure my bike when I leant the bike to something. I have found that Cruzbikes fall over easily when the front end flops.I also used it once to suspend the bike from an overhead beam so I could work on the front end of the bike.
