Future of the Profile Post

So as we finish securing the forums, you may have noticed that we don't have a lot of tools to protect the profile posts from the spammer. So we want peoples feedback on the profile post feature and how you'd feel if we turned it off so that it doesn't act as an attractor to spammers.

Profile posts are the mini posts that appear to the right side of the main forum page.

I see profile posts being used mainly to exchange information such as phone numbers and travel plans, which would be better kept private in a conversation; or to ask a question that would be more suited to a forum post. Wouldn't miss the sidebar a bit.

I agree with everybody above. I wonder what the webmaster could put in that part of the screen

If you have anything to do with making the vital profile posts disappear, I will sue you into oblivion, hound your family into the poorhouse, contact both the IRS and Homeland Security and point them in your direction and, generally make your lives a living hell on Earth.

I don't care: delete the sucker: Looks like no one will miss it ... not even little old me.

The spammers have been vanquished the profile posts will remain. I'm sure that is a relief to all.

Additionally the fields:

• user Location
• occupation
• homepage

Have been re-instated so that you can live your lives in public as much as you like (no @LarryOz that doesn't mean your manly topless photos )

Everyone's patience was appreciated.

If the scum resurfaces in another form we should have easy ways to deal with them.

Special thanks to @Jerrye for flagging just about every spam message submitted over many months; and the others the helped identify them. Might seem obvious which ones are spam; but after you clean up 20 or 30 in a row it's easy to loose track of one or to.
