Garmin lights on the V

with all the recent activity of cyclist being hit by cars I’ve become a little paranoid and am seeking additional visibility. I’ve researched the UT800 headlight and the RTL510 radar tail light. I’m struggling with creative ways to mount these lights and am hoping someone has already conquered the challenge. I have the origin 8 tab for mounting a light out front and the carbon tailbox. I would like to use the Edge out front mount for the headlight if possible. My thought for the tail light was to use a K-edge force type mount attached to he tube from the tailbox.

Anyone conquered this? For what it’s worth I have stumped my LBS and the folks at Garmin on this. I would like to ensure I can make these work before dropping $350 on them and being stuck.

I mount my garmin radar (which is the previous generation, but I believe it is the same mounting) using a garmin on-the-handlebars GPS mount on my inverted headrest tubes (I mount my headrest tubes upside down).

For my front light (fly12ce, which isn't quite the same, but close enough as I unscrewed the garmin mount to screw in the fly12ce mount on the out-in-front part), I mount a origin8 nub with a k-edge type out-in-front mount. This is just as you'd think.

I *also* mount my LiMo SECA 1700 further under. For this I use the following:

I mount this using the thru-hole for the (I assume) shifter cable which noone uses now that we have the pulley for the shifter cable.
The LiMo SECA is then 'under' the bottom bracket, pointing forward (and not shining on my feet or in my eyes at all!)

Thanks for sharing, I just got a note back from the LBS where the garmin rep said it couldn’t be done. It’s amazing how creative some people are but sales reps can’t see how their own products can be used to solve problems. I found a Garmin Virb mount that works with the UT800 and will mount nicely to the Origin 8 nub.

Like the Dinnotte DAYTIME RED, for daytime ONLY as too bright at night, and the brightness cannot be reduced.

I use the Light and Motion Vis 360 Pro helmet light. It's not super bright, but it puts the light up higher, where it can been seen better, and I can point the headlamp at a car if I'm not sure it sees me. A charge lasts me about two weeks, it isn't very heavy, and the whole thing costs about $120.00.

The amber side lights on the headlight are very good for side visibility!

Knog 4x tail light. I never ride without it - day and night. Slip it on the loop on back of seat bag mounted under head rest tubes on the S40

The Dinotte Daylight tail puts out 400 lumens, compared to 44 for the Knog 4X, so a lot more noticeable on a bright sunny day.

Occasionally in winter.

Louisville has loads of tree lined streets in the city and surrounding countryside and that makes the Knog adequate most of the time. Sure, in full on blazing sun I could use some more light but it is so simple and reliable. I bit of a trade off I suppose. A bit like those $2500 high profile wheel sets. Would love a pair but not really interested in being single again!

Knog makes good lights. I like the programming and the quality, but I've got to go with @super slim: the 4x is one that borders on not effective enough. (If one is to have a eureka moment, one would want something a little brighter above one's head! ) Happy safe riding to you.

I have been Use a Bright Eyes LED in the front, with a back up battery pack:

and dual Cygolight Hotshots in the rear:

The rears on on flash whenever I ride, the front is on flash during the day and steady after dark. Been commuting with this set up for 3 years on my old bent and now on the S40.

The Bright Eyes are amazingly bright, and the customer service is great.
The Hotshots are visible for a huge distance, and the charge seems to last forever.

Just purchased new lezyne zecto max be seen lights. Latest generation. Still waiting on post but online reviews seem good. 250 lumen front n back in a small package with decent run time. Latest technology. That’s not 400 slim but 400 is mad driver making hit me callin.

Aluminium flat bar frame shaped like a paddle. Used four plastic headrest clamps supplied by cruzbike. So far nil issue.

I just bent the aluminium bar to suit the pocket shape of brain bag and then attached the “handle” of the paddle to cruzbike clamps directly. No cross member in middle.

Bag sits out with rear edge of headrest but side bike bags take up that space.

In the pic you can see the bottom left clamp onto the handle of paddle.

Note the plane I chose of the bar. Saved pop riveting and brain bag pocket not stressed. Around 4000 klm with bag. Always has around a kg of weight. But have loaded up for few audax rides about 3.5 kg no issue.

My Designshine rear taillight is 800 lumens, with a 10 deg spot , and a 40 deg horiz by 10 deg vert wide beam + 90 side lighting!!
I only use 800 watts strobe flashing on CLEAR bright days, which in Sth. Aust., is most of the time, unlike Newcastle with its coal dust OR bush fires!!
I adjust it down to 500 W, 400 w, 250w, or 100 w in one of the 5 flash modes on the few duller days, OR 100 W at night!

Can you do all that with yours???
