Handy bottle option

A handy, cheap option to make getting and replacing bottles to/from cage. A tube kit with valves and mouth pieces from Amazon…$15. Stainless steel U-bend from Keg-works…$5. Tube keeper w/magnet…under $10. Now it’s just a tube to grab and replace behind the head instead of the full bottle. I have had bobbles getting and replacing my bottles while riding…I keep the cages tight so I don’t lose any more bottles over bumps. image.jpg

Well done. On a previous hydration iteration I used a drill to hole the top of the bidon and stuck my old mtb bite tube dip tube through. Make it small enough to be friction tight and it stays put. Simple. But I wanted more room on the bike and aero. Hence the brain bag mod.

Camelback bottles have a valve that pushes out, so the tube fit well but kinked a couple times…hence the “U-bend”. The tube kit came with O rings that fit over the tube and into the bottles mouth piece….all the pieces fit just right…everything goes together and comes apart easily. I drilled a small air hole on one side of the cap to ease the drinking…suction. Is there a pic of your version somewhere?

I've had an insulated water bottle with drinking tube in place for a long time, but since changing my seat out to the Thor one, I didn't have a way to mount them... until now :)

I used some rivet nuts and mounted my two insulated Bubba 40 oz bottles in the back of my thor seat.

We'll see how well those rivet nuts hold up.

Blessings,
Rudy

Doc,
What headrest are you using on you bike?
Thank you,
Tony.

What headrest
That looks like the ICE headrest.

Rudy @DocS, does this headrest work well for you? I’ve been very happy with the (no longer made) Adem 2 with my Thor on the V20. On another, I tried the Thor neckrest, but I found it flexes too much. I’m considering another option. Right now I’m using the original Cruzbike seat, adjustable headrest, and the suspension headrest - inverted. I’m moderately content with this.

Yes, it's the Ice Headrest made for Carbon Fiber seats.
A fellow local Vendetta rider had one mounted on his Thor seat and it looked solid/comfortable, so I borrowed his idea.

I'm very happy with this headrest! It's easy to remove the padding and cover for washing (yup, I'm a sweaty guy). It was very easy to mount and pretty adjustable. Ice does also sell a small light adapter that allows you to mount a light on one of the braces.

I never tried the Adem headrest (RIP) but only heard good things about them.

I'm going to build a water bottle cage for each bottle that will have two thumb screw clamps to firmly hold the 40oz water bottles. I'll likely dip the non-moving parts in Plasti-dip to keep it from rubbing/wearing and rattling.

Hopefully I can get out on a test ride soon to see how secure it is...

I like to use these Vacuum Insulated Water Bottles, because I prefer to drink cold water. If I fill them with ice and water, they'll stay ice cold all day. If I sip cold water as I ride, I tend not to overdrink. If I drink warm water, I tend to drink too much and end up nauseous.

Maybe I'll ride out to the Micro-brewery that's about 20 miles on a bike, empty out the bottles and come home on Stout! (they make a bunch of awesome stout beers!)

I use the Thor rest. Originally found it too flexible but added a hole/bolt about 1/2” below the top of the seat and now it’s perfect
