I asked if they allowed recumbents.... their reply:

HI Don,

Thanks for getting in contact.

I've spoken with the Peaks Manager and you are welcome to use your recumbent. You're wild to do so, but more than welcome! Haha.

Wishing you all the best with your training! Happy riding!

How cool is that. Now any Aussies out there wanna do it with me?
I am surprised that you even asked. I would have just registered and show up. :) Did they explicitly say no to recumbent before? For events in Seattle, I just register and show up. Nobody has said anything other than cool bike! :)

I have considered this on my DF bike, but my back would be in a world of pain. Having said that, I'm not sure I would want to do it on a bent!! That is some serious climbing in that event. And the worst of it is at the end. I'm new to bents, so I can't comment, but the idea of 15% plus for considerable time does not seem appealing!

Yeah, I'm starting now! I receive a direto xr soon and prolly use fullgas which has the back of falls as a route. Also i will be making no4. Soon but it requires another project to be made first. Pics along the way

Righto. March 2022. Let's make some plans . I want to aim for less 10hr. 3.5-4w/kg
Gee don don’t know about that. At sixty years old a testicle may slip into the wrong cavity. Maybe 3 for me. 3 watts not nuts. And 15% real hills equals wheel slip excuse to walk. Maybe three of us can have a go.

Not for the faint hearted...

Jond, that would mean travelling to Victoria!!!
Are you allowed out of the state????

You do realise that there are three main climbs:-
Tawonga Gap, 8 km long, 480 m climb, average 6.3%, max 11%
Mt Hotham, 31 km long, 1280m climb, average 4.2%, max 10%
Falls Creek, 24 km long, 980 m climb, average 4.2%, Max 9%

Total ride 235 km(147 mls) in 13 hours with 4,000+m (13,100 ft) of climbing!!

Will 13 hours be enough time for you????

mate I’ve done Sydney to Melbourne audax alpine with 1200 klm with 9 or 12000 m climbing one of the worlds toughest. Also alpine classic and rode through there many times. Just never on a bent. Or as unfit or as old or ...... heck if don wants to have a go I’m in. And I’ll train up. And down. It’s only cycling.

How many days/hours did it take for the 1200 km(750 mls)??
How does it compare to the Paris Brest Paris race?

If you ask me... its up there with the greats. I have the greatest admiration for any rider participating in such an event

Nah. It'll fine . No4 will be a special bike. It's all in the training/pacing/fueling for sure.

My thoughts in gearing.. 52/34.... 11-40 cassette.. I rekon 34-36 might be ok but the 40 might be a good get out of jail gear... 10 percent is doable. Even pinches if 15 are still doable. I want 12speed cassette but they currently 34 road 46mtb.. nothing in the middle.

it will be very tough no matter the gearing. I will need to train specifically harder for such an event. Maybe there is something in nsw where we could ride together. As an intro. I have no drop policy. What about an audax or charity ride with some climbing.
