Headrest foam sources

Greetings all,

My apologies if this has been asked before. The foam in my Vendetta headrest has become compressed and is losing it's cushion. When I rinse it in very warm water it somewhat fluffs again, but after I use it for a ride it flattens out again.

Does anyone have any suggestions for sources to new foam? I'm also thinking about trying some a little thicker.

Do you think this is the same material used in the stock headrest?

I think most of us aren't huge fans of the stock foam and tend to look elsewhere for comfort reasons. I thought CB sold replacement foam on their website though?

I cannot find the foam on the Cruzbike store.

Based on a little poking around, it would appear that the type of foam used in the Vendetta headrest is called "reticulated open cell foam"-- aka "filter foam" or "speaker foam".

Hostel Shoppe carries something that looks very similar, but I do not know if it would work or is the correct size:

I'm hoping someone from Cruzbike will chime in here and offer suggestions for foam sources that are the same or better than stock.

Demand for replacements is small; so inventory is tiny and variable; thus not on the web store. Email support@cruzbike.com and Robert will let you know if he has any on hand and the price.

Not sure if anyone's tried it, but I'd think carpet padding would work, which is available in various densities and can normally be obtained in small quantities from carpet retailers for free. MTCW, YMMV

Carpet padding might work for some, but for me it would be too hard and too hot since it's not breathable, but it's a good idea and I'm looking into different options besides what CB offers.

ACS 10 mesh the same as used on the Ventilist seat pads could be a good replacement.

There's a several threads on alternate headrests and headrest padding on this forum. If heat and breathability are major concerns, you might want to check on Ventisit headrest pads.

This material is probably similar (it's used to line the inside of US Army bullet-resistant vests to improve ventilation, it is 8mm thick instead of 10mm thick) . However, the minimum order size is pretty large for someone looking to make a neckrest pad. (on the other hand, the color swatch sample book might have enough material in it for a neckrest and only costs $8.50)
