Headrest options

Hello All, I’d like to ask the advice of some more experienced V20 riders about headrest setup and options. I’m having trouble getting the stock headrest dialed in and comfortable for me. Been looking at options on the Cruzbike site and searched through the forums. There is the performance adjustable headrest and the suspension headrest. Can anyone comment about these please? I was thinking about trying the adjustable suspension headrest first and if more adjustability is required, add the performance headrest. Those two in combination should be super adjustable unless for some reason they are incompatible with one another.

Part of my issue is that when I place my head on the stock headrest I’m basically looking at the sky! At the very least looking through my bifocals trying to see where I’m going! You older gents will probably understand my dilemma.

thank you for any comments or suggestions.

Hi Mark,

I got my V20 2nd hand with a few options including the performance adjustable headrest. I first tried the stock headrest and ran into the same problems as you. So I then tried the adjustable headrest which solved these issues. The interesting thing is that as I got used to the bike and made adjustments to the position, my headrest position changed. A few months ago I tried the stock headrest again, and now it is great. So I can't quite explain why I found an issue at first and then was fine with it later? I suspect I shifted my body forward or backwards on the seat compared to my first learning attempts on the V20, and found a better body position that the stock headrest was better suited to?

The adjustable headrest has plenty of adjustment to find an ideal position for anyone I think... but it is a rigid setup and if you are on bumpy surfaces, you may want some suspension (like an air cushion via an old inner tube). The stock headrest is a little more forgiving (but not much). I still hold my head off it on bumpy sections. I have not tried the suspension headrest, but suspect it would be more comfy if you can get your desired position with it.

I bought my V20 second hand with the performance adjustable headrest.

Later I purchased the suspension headrest and found it worked best for me with the adjustable headrest.

Super comfortable in this configuration

Cheers

Edit: I did need to get a longer stainless bolt to run through - I think it was M6 from memory

The stock headrest has always worked for me. I am a shorter rider, and I did need to cut the internal legs of the headrest a bit shorter so that I could slide them into the frame far enough. I also created a curved bending jig so that I could bend the headrest forward a little bit, putting my head a slight bit more upright or better vision. So while the stock headrest has always worked for me, I did have to tinker with it.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and comments. I appreciate the help. Looks like I might need to order an upgrade from the Cruzbike folks

The stock headrest works fine for me but I did modify it some by adding a couple pieces of yoga mat foam under the fabric cover to tilt my noggin a bit more vertical.

I use progressive lenses instead of bifocals from the Zenni online outlet where I purchase my glasses and it sounds like this is what you need for better vision in the laid back position.

mark if you are looking at the sky then you need to let the neckrest out. This will bring your head more vertical. You want to be double chinning it. Look at some of the side profile pics of larry etc. ok let out that rest. Sounds counter intuitive but it’s right. Also revisit the finding that fit by ratz on set up of the vendetta. Good luck. I use standard rest with a cut down inner tube inflated. So comfy. Great shock absorbtion.

Thanks JD, now that you mention it I kept moving the headrest in so that it’s right up against the seat. I’ll definitely look at the set info from Ratz

I just mounted an adjustable headrest... I didn't get the floating pad though...
I have to test ride it, but it does work for me with a slightly higher head position.
It should be stated that I am definitely still in the learning mode and just at the start of the curve...

More on the adjustable headrest...
After fiddling with this contraption in the cold... I can say that the stock headrest shines by comparison for it's simplicity and adjustability.
I do like trying out new things... so, no loss here... but I have developed a real appreciation for the stock headrest. Now, I have two to choose from. :)
