Help Larry get to the World Championships and represent Cruzbike

David - don't let this little thing stop you from going! :) It should not be too hard to just build a side guard that matches the Q-rings shape. I will be working on it myself soon. Even if you went totally round and it was a little large that it needed to be, seems like it should work. I guess they are trying to protect injury to others from a frontal hit. I wonder if the Magic would be OK, since the front nose sticks out way past the rings?
If push comes to shove; i will be using the front pedal and yet they allow disc brakes in the peleton. Seems like rules are created to suit a given purpose.

I have been using those centred cleats and i am surprised how stiff ive become. I can see i will have to quickly retrain the muscle sets

@super slim Note: Slide 4 didn't work in the thumbnails so it looks like a "?". Makes it seem like you are using special counting! You were referring to this one, right:

Off the long run

Does anyone with any kind of an engineering background think any of the guards in the photo listing would last a millisecond in a crash. The cardboard one ziptied and duct tape on it might not make a good gale.

Their race and their rules but has history ever shown injury to another bent rider from a chainring.
...
They wouldn't survive a crash, but that's not the point. The point is that become a flat impact point for what's in front vs the sharp and pointy behind it. It's sacrificial, not structural.

And also no, the sample size is small and self-selecting. But where you have lots of recumbents piling into the back of each other, which I have seen at Hillingdon, it's a reasonable precaution to a foreseeable outcome.

I see that Larry has generated some interest in our event, so far his actually the only Cruzbike rider, but there are many MBB bikes registered (including mine of course)
To clarify a few things:
- chainring protection is relatively easy to make yourself: a sheet of plastic or plywood (~5mm thick) or carbon if you dare, cut to the right shape (a few mm larger than the ring diameter). It works for exotic chainring shapes (see link to picture of Zockra KA below)
- medical certificate: required by our insurance company, but remember: we cannot check if it has been signed by a real medical doctor ;) )
