What I feel is that with nearly straight arms I can drive better, produce more power and even aero is better.
I have tried to bring my arms to the middle to grab a 31.6 mm stubby bar "on the tops" position as well as a stubby centered aerobar configuration. With both I can go fast but I do not like the loss of control. I was recently out riding in 25 mph gusting to 30 mph with wide bars which are identical in arm position to yours and even though I had disks front and back, the bike was still (barely) manageable. On big side gusts the wide arm stance with nearly straight arms gives you tons of control so the front wheel does not really get get yawed. I switched back to a 90 mm aero wheel on front to reduce the side wind profile somewhat. More peace of mind that way.
