Kickstand

My kick stand broke a couple of weeks ago it had been well used for several years.
I mounted this double type.

I know some of you don’t like kickstands but for me they are very practical.

The bike is very stable with this kickstand.
I also use a trailer some times and this stand is better than the original kickstand that wasn’t very good when I had the trailer connected.

I have to admit to dealing out some good natured teasing to people with kickstands, spoke protectors and spoke reflectors.. I know, I'm a horrible, horrible person. ;)

It got to the point where I decided to take the Sofrider I am "borrowing" on a club ride and it occured to me I would hear about the aforementioned articles that were installed on this bike. Well, we couldn't have that, so I spent a few minutes taking these item off. I was surprised at how light the kickstand really was; I think the bolt that holds it on weighs almost as much. I carefully tucked the parts away in case they needed to be reinstalled at some point.

Anyway, I took the bike out on a club ride and didn't have to suffer the "payback" teasing I knew would be coming.

Same thing happened to me.

Same thing happened to me. Nothing to do with perhaps being a little bit overloaded on the tour I did last November

...I've been looking at a Plescher - they seem to be the duck guts in double kickstands.

2 legged kick stand

This is the one that I have from EBay. It's very light and adjustable.

I use a Click-Stand (http://www.click-stand.com/) with my Silvio. It isn't quite as convenient, but it works well and is light weight.

My 2-legged kickstand

Hi

I have had 2 different 2-legged kickstands on my Cruzbike Freerider.

First was a low-weight alu that was not quite tall enough, and not as sturdy as the one I have now. It was a Hebie http://www.hebie.de/bipod-stand-690T.hebie690t.0.html?&L=1

The kickstand I have now is a slightly heavier, but also from Hebie. http://www.dutchbikebits.com/index.php?route=product/product&keyword=hebie&category_id=0&product_id=85

I also bought Hebie's steering dampener, http://www.dutchbikebits.com/index.php?route=product/product&keyword=hebie&category_id=0&product_id=150

The steering damper does not affect steering when cycling, but when getting it in/out of a door while turning can be difficult. Unfortunately the steering damper does not prevent the front from swinging when parked. But the 2 legged kickstand does make the bike much more stable when parked in a bicycle stand that locks the front wheel.

You can see both the new and the old kickstand plus the steering damper mounted on my cruzbike here:

I have the same one as Floridabike does!

But maybe because I run 1.95 tires and not a regular front shock, they where slightly short for my SR. I just saw another dent about 1 cm from the last one on the leg (the leg is adjustable) and it works fine. It is quite light.

Ursus Jumbo

Here's the one I have on my Quest. I had to block it by about an inch to get the right height. Very stable, but a bit heavy as well, and spendy!! It worked on the Sofrider as well, until I tried to put it on my roof rack. I have a fork mount Yakima rack so I remove the rear wheel and mount the rear forks rather than the front forks as on a conventional bike. These style of kickstands hang too low and interfere with this type of rack mount. Someday I'd like to get a trailer hitch rack to make life a bit simpler.
