Levee ride

I rode my S40 on the levee last night. It sure is different from riding on the streets down here in south Florida
I am running 700x32 gravel on the front and 700x40 gravel tire on the rear
I couldn't keep up with the group they were doing 18 to 20mph. I could hang in there at 16 and 17 mph I did a total of 18 miles
Its going to take sometime to get use to this
Just wondering will this type of training improve my speed on the roads

If you want a guaranteed increase in road speed join us in the Thursday TTT's. Every rider who becomes a regular has claimed an increased performance in outdoor riding and if you try it once you will understand why. Another belief is this is one of the top methods for recumbents to increase their hill climbing abilities. Again, try us and you will understand. No bull just buff.

The surface is rocks and sand pretty compacted. There's one hill getting up on the levee I had a few front wheel spins
I think in two weeks I will be able to hang with the group

its really hard to say where speed can come from when you have an irregular surface. conditioning of course is the biggest. for me the other two that matter the most for me is tire size and gear selection. i find that i am more sensitive to cadence or dirt and hardpack, and i have found that if the surface will take it, staying in that low 30's in width matters as well. i can ride a fatter tire all day at 14-16, but there seems to be a breakpoint in there where its just too much work to push a wider tire faster.
