Looking Hard At A S40 But Need Some Advice

I was hit by a car while riding my Schlitter Freestyle. I find that after the accident, I now suffer from pain in my hips and feet when my feet are up on my replacement Freestyle and on my Bacchetta Carbon Aero. I know the pain is gone and I'm comfortable on a Gold Rush. Just wondering if the S40 is, boom, that much lower than the other two-wheel recumbents? The joys of being 67. Would love to get back to riding Metric and Full Centuries.

Thanks!!!

Glad to hear you are back riding after your accident. I have both bikes and can share my experience. My first 2 wheel recumbent was a Freestyle and I absolutely loved riding that bike. However, after a few years, I noticed pain in my leg after about 15 miles or so and I attributed that to circulation issues due to the height of the bottom bracket in relation to my torso (heart). I've played around with several seat adjustments and have had a difficult time finding that sweet spot. I'm an amputee and it only affected my amputated side but the pain that the lack of circulation caused took the joy out of riding the bike. I transitioned to CB and have had no such issues. The bottom bracket is lower and that took care of the issue for me. I still have my Freestyle as I haven't sold it yet so if interested, I can do a side by side comparison and send pics and measure the difference in the BB heights. If you decide to make a move on the S40, once you get use to the moving bottom bracket, it's a pleasure to ride.

AFAIK, chain stays for the S40 come in different lengths allowing you to lower or raise the BB height. I believe there is a 19", 21" and 23". You might want to check if there is a 17" chain stay that fits an S40 as well.
