Looks like I'm gonna be an S40 owner Friday!

My wife initially blew a gasket when she learned that I bought another bike!!!

Currently, I have a Cruzbike Vendetta and S40, Catrike 700 and her Villager, a project ActionBent Trike, a Tandem cruiser bike and a foldable bicycle...

She's over the shock for the time being, but If I get anymore bikes, she's gonna make me sleep in the garage...

Blessings,
DocS

Pfft. I've sold more than 10 bikes in the past 3 months and am finally down to a double digit number that starts with "1" ;-)

Been pretty busy lately and haven't ridden as much as usual the last couple weeks...

I took the S40 out last Wednesday with intentions to do a solo 30 to 50 mile "shakedown ride".
It was pretty windy and I noticed right away that the S40 is not a Vendetta :)

I was trying to get used to the 1x11 groupset... I wasn't sure if I liked it or not...
I got to about mile 16, when I shifted and heard/felt something weird in the brifter, I tried to shift again and it was a no-go...
I stopped and looked things over, but couldn't see any problems... I tried shifting up and down, but the cable wouldn't move.
I decided to turn around and limp back to my car in a single speed S40...

I got home and took things apart...
Some strands of the shifter cable broke and were keeping the brifter from shifting...
Sunday, I replaced the cable and cable housing, added a Wolf tooth derailleur extender, made adjustments.

Monday, I lead a Veterans Recumbent ride on my trike (Catrike 700), so couldn't get out...

Yesterday, I went out with a regular riding buddy for a 30 mile ride on a very familiar route, so I could "feel" the differences of the S40 vs the Vendetta...
Again, I noticed more wind in my face. The more upright seating position made riding with a DF rider easier in that we could chat a bit... Since I'm not used to being in a pace line or drafting, I took the lead and he was happily drafting off me. He commented on the much greater draft he was able to get, vs my Vendetta...

We did the 15 miles out and back (total of 30) and I have to say that it took more effort...
I like having double chainrings up front and the 9tX46t cassette leaves gaps in gears that I'm not used to... The S40 can definitely crawl up hills!
Another side effect of the more upright seating position is that I felt a bit more shock in my spine from the bumps...
I have some old lumbar back issues (from a 5 story fall during a rescue mission in the Military). I don't seem to have much problem with more reclined seating, but I think 40 degrees may be a bit too upright for me...

I know I've only had the S40 for a couple weeks now and haven't ridden it much, but I'm wondering if this horse will remain in my stable...

Just my first impressions...

I guess I'll ride it a bit more before making any final decisions...

i think this is a good description of the differences between the 40 and the 20.
they are not the same bike, but many people see them as interchangeable.

i am reminded of what jim parker said to me when i was trying to decide between a 40 and a 20, which was really what made me pick the 20 as my first CB.:

"you can always put a wedge in to bring the v20 seatback up, but you cant do anything to take the s40 down."

and of courese for me i found the 20 i just could not do with my bad valve, so i made the partial wedge, so the seat is 20 most of the way and kicks up at the end. (very similar to my other seats)

i still think a xl thor may be the best, but until then the stock seat plust the wedge is best

but, of course, @DocS be sure to email me if you want to get rid of the s40.....n+1

I finally did get my thor seat and mounted it to my Vendetta...
It's pretty comfy, but puts my head up higher than anticipated...
I'm still making small adjustments, trying to get used to the differences... I have had to move my boom out a little.

If I do decide to part with the S40, I'll be sure to let you know my friend!

Blimey, terrifying! Do you feel lucky or unlucky?

A rescue mission, and it was you they had to rescue.

Well, I guess pretty lucky...
I was rescued, but wasn't as badly hurt as the guy I was trying to rescue.
I was paralyzed from the waste down for a bit, but I was persistent in Physical Therapy and got back to walking and now, riding...
I used to run (a lot), but that compression not only hurts, but causes me to lose feeling in my legs. Same if I ride a DF bike. I feel similar pain from that ride on the S40, but so far, no loss of feeling. I'm going to ride it a bit more to see if it continues...

I bought the S40 first but didn't work out for my group rides. So I bought the V20 much better on group rides. So now I ride the S40 on gravel with big tires 15 to 18 on gravel just right
