hello,
I just picked up a used s40 and it seems to need a tuneup. Does anyone know a bike shop that will service cruzbikes in west LA, or LA in general? Also a brand new rider to two wheel bents and cruzbikes, anyone near west LA can give tips or want to ride?

Welcome MulteePass. Plenty of riders here do their own wrenching, and if you have done any of that on your road bikes then you'll see that other than a few things it is very similar to what you'll do on your S40. Jus tbe careful of overtightening the bottom-bracket clamps. They can snap easily if you go over 3-4ft/lbs.

Unfortunately, I'm on the other side of LA, or else I could be a bit more helpful.

It uses all standard 700c road bike parts, so assuming all you need is your brakes and shifting adjusted, any real shop should be able to accommodate. I do all my own work, so I've never dealt with bent bias at a shop, nor do I know how prevalent it actually is, but I'd just ride the bike to a few local shops and ask if they would be willing to perform a service on it. Go with the shop that gives the best first impression based on that conversation.

I've had no problem getting my Cruzbikes tuned up at my local Trek shop. In fact, they had done a lot of upgrades for me too.

You will have a better conversation with anyone at a LBS if you take your S40 there - then they can see they would just be dealing with standard bike components and probably will not have any issues. If you try and have the conversation over the phone - they will instinctively stop listening as soon as they hear you say "recumbent".

I've definitely experienced this. I do all my own wrenching but didn't have the T47 BB tool when I bought my V20c. Called around and nobody had one and it was a week to get one over the internets so I thought I'd take it into a pretty highly regarded LBS. It went like this:

LBS: What is that? We don't work on those

Me: All I want is for you to install the bottom bracket.

LBS: We can't get it on our workstand.

Me: Showed them how.

LBS: I guess we can do it but won't guarantee the work.

Me: Go ahead, (thought: it's so simple nobody could screw it up)

An hour later they called and said it was ready. It was fine. I've subsequently bought the proper tool.

Note that while I was there they had cargo bikes, e-bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, etc., all in the service area.

Sigh.
