Marcel won the Trans America race last year in a velomobile.

He is currently racing on a Cruzbike V20 in Oman (Arabian peninsula).

This is a 1050 km (652 mile) race with 7200m (23,622 ft) of climbing

I am hoping his Spot merely stopped functioning. If there is no movement on a tracker for X number of hours, some ultra races will automatically scratch you. Nothing on his FB page. ?

Marcel posted that the very, very steep gravel sections gave him problems and he was wearing carbon racing shoes and after trying to walk for some hours in socks, he decided to finish unofficially. I don't know why these self supported ultra races like TCR or others put gravel into it so much but anyway. Much respect that he tried on such a rough climb. I know I personally could not make that mountain on my M5 but then again, I am old, fat, and on narrow tires.
