Mark's Silvio II Build

Believe it, or not, but Silvio II is done!

There's still a couple little things to do; mount the pump, bottle cages and computer, but the build itself is finished. I even got to take it up and down the street a few times. It was technically too dark to ride, but I had to do it and MAN, was it worth it! So, now I will probably do a shake down ride tomorrow evening after I get home from work.

Cool, things are beginning to feel right again!

Yeah, but now I'm kinda wishing I had gotten a Tour Easy.....

NOT!!!  It was a pretty quick build, but it helped that I had been there and done it before. Not too much head scratching involved AND I had my old Silvio sitting right there to take measurements off of. The only thing I did above and beyond was disassemble one of the previously assembled assemblies; the TFT clamp that goes onto the bottom bracket shell. I took that apart and applied a generous amount of greast to the inside of the clamp. I did try the hairspray trick to the carboyoke/dropout junction. I sprayed some onto a q-tip and applied carefully to the unfinished ends. Who knows if it helped, but I gave it a shot. I was much more deliberate and thougtful with cable routing this time and I think the difference in appearance was worth the bother. I can't wait until tonight!

Coming tonight. I was too tired to break out the camera last night. It sure was nice to walk out into the garage this morning and there she was! I was sorely tempted to ride her to work this morning, but prefer to keep my shakedown rides shorter and closer to home. Not that I've ever had any issues, but you never know.

OK, I admit and apologize; I forgot to get out the camera last night.

Actually, I had a lot on my plate being the last evening before the first day of school. So, it's getting close to dark and I finally get to breath a little. I decided to take it for a shakedown spin. It ran out real nice, the gears shifted well, I was smiling and having a great time, no matter I already had 40 commuter miles in my legs! I got it home intent on getting the pump, bottle cages and computer installed when a neighbor lady came over with her kids' bikes needing some tubes patched. Being somewhat of a nice guy, I went ahead and patched the two tubes and sent her on her way. I still got the accessories hung, so I'm ready for a longer cruise tonight after I get home. This should be interesting!

Finally got around to taking the pictures last night. I realized after taking these shots that the handlebar was rotated backwards too much. I corrected it afterwards. I bought this bar off e-bay; got the last one from my LBS. There was a difference in the bars, it seems.

Here's the shot that shows the difference in cable routing.

New build, just dawned on me I haven't put the Silvio badge on yet.

I also think it looks very good your experience from building nr 1 probably helped you decide how to make nr 2. I hope you have many good rides and I am also looking forward to read about some of them.

Thank you, Jack and Peder, you're very kind. I'm hoping to get in about 100 miles this weekend, including another beach ride with my Sunday breakfast group. If you remember, the return trip from the beach ride is where my original Silvio was injured. Time for some payback!

Hey, if any of you local Socal crazies want to join us, PM me!
