Because i'm eventually going to have to get studded snow tires - how wide of a tire is usable without interfering with the chain, etc.? Can I get away with 1.9 studded tired, for instance?

I have a Sofrider V1 I used 2,1” winter tires with studs the fit was very tight in the front.
The ones you suggested should fit with good clearance. We had a very mild winter with some ice and snow for a short time.
