Mirror for Silvio

Hi

Does anyone have a link to a mirror that would be good for the Silvio? The one that JT has on his seems to sit just right... I have gone through a few of them, and they do not clamp on correctly. It's a lot tougher on the Silvio to turn around!

I'm not a huge fan of mirrors that mount on the bike. The always seem to be vibrating when I really need to see what's going on. I know a lot of people, myself included, favor the Take-A-Look brand of mirror. It can be mounted directly to eyeglasses, sunglasses, or even a helmet. They are very adjustable, well made and last a lifetime. I generally lose them before they wear out. http://westernbikeworks.com/productdetail.asp?p=TLEGM

I plan on using this nice compact Cateye which I stock for $10:

I use mirycle brand on Silvio, with modified mounts, mating a plain reflector bracket to the main stem of the mirror and disgarding its handlebar end mounting.

The bachetta comes with a nice Euro mirror that is mid-bar mounted.

I won't deny being kinda weird about keeping crap bolted onto the bike to a minimum. Know that.

Heres a suggestion I havn't had time to act on. Shop for a mini mirror in the auto accessory place, some are available with a flat not convex lens (apparently). Shop for a mini bell that attaches round the bar with o-rings. cut off bell, glue on mirror. One model of mirror (so I am told) has a pivotable mounting. which combined with the rotation around the bar should give enough adjustment. I looked for mirrors at the Taipei cycle show. All seem to have the r=600mm convexity that don't work in the kind of traffic I ride in. Might be good in China I guess or in a cycling pack.

Mirrycle mirror with handlebar mount and extensions available

After much searching on the internet, I did find a company that has the Mirrcycle mirror available with a handlebar mounting bracket (not bar end) plus extensions available in two lengths.
http://www.calhouncycle.com/
Check out the Evo mirror products.

I order the EVO-3000 -Mirrycle mirror with Evolution mounting hardware - 29.97
with the EVO-3150 with the 55mm extension. (they also carry a 35mm extension)

Once mounted, this mirror (as with any Mirrcyle mirror) is extremely stable yet very adjustable.
I had tried using the bar end mirrors but didn't like having to turn my head to look down at the mirror.
With this setup, the mirror is just left of my eyesight so just takes a quick glance to see behind me.
With the 55mm extension, the mirror is postioned high above my shoulders so I have a great view behind me.

Below are pictures...

Product as shipped...did not have to assemble...

Re Miracycle

I put a Miracycle into the bar end, discarding most of the attachment. Photos below. It worked quite well but nothing compares with an eye mirror in my opinion.

Hi,
Mickjordan, your mirrors

Hi,

Mickjordan, your mirrors mounted on the wrong side. ;-)

Frankly, where I ride I would not be wothout a mirror. Victoria is running campaigns to get motoricts to give people on bikes a 1 meter berth. It is not working so a bit of notice before a close shave is simply a useful safety feature.

I have the mirricycle setup and I really like it. Easy to use, adjust and doesn't get easil knocked.

Bar end bell on the left.

Zefal Spy Mirror

Seeems like that Miracycle mirror really sticks out more than a mirror should.

I like this Zefal Spy mirror that Cruzbike sells. http://www.cruzbike.com/zefal-spy-mirror-usa-only

I've had mine for almost 2000 miles now and it has never fallen off and it has very little vibration. It takes about 5 seconds to install or remove.

In the past I used a helment mounted mirror and hated it. It was hard to see, came off easily and vibrated all over the place.

Mirrors (wide angle), eyeglass

The Zefal mirror looks wide angle. I have tried those and have a problem in adjusting to the distortion and seeing cars early enough. I liked the Mirracycle because it wasn't very wide angle and had a large viewing area.

I agree about helmet mounted mirrors, they are too susceptible to vibration. I wear an eyeglass mounted mirror which is very stable and, although small, the proximity to the eye provides better visibility in my opinion than a bike mounted mirror.

I honestly though I would switch to a bike mounted mirror on a 'bent but my experience so far is that I still prefer the eyeglass mounted mirror.
