My Little Cruzer

I got home from a 72 mile ride today and my daughter hit me up about going out on the bikes. I was pretty beat, but how can you say no when your kids are asking you to take them out? Anyway, this time, i thought to take some pics with my cell phone:

I know.... The TFT is too short. That's where she's comfortable, for now. Today, she was mentioning she might be ready to stretch it out a little. She's also not ready to clip in, just yet. She's no stranger to clipless pedals, but she prefers Speedplay and I don't think the cleat and a Cruzbike would be a good combo. We might give it a try. Anyway, she's no stranger to cycling, as these pics will show:

First club ride... she did 50 miles

With our tandem. She's a darned fine stoker.

We logged lots of miles together, once upon a time. Now, the Cruzbike has her enthused about riding again.... That's a GOOD thing! She's starting off slow, just doing 10-15 miles at at time. She can go straight as can be, but is still struggling with starts, just a little. Mostly at intersections, where she gets nervous because everybody is watching. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Tomorrow, she's going to tackle the breakfast ride. It will be her longest ride on the Cruzbike. I bet she does just fine!

It's cool to see kids wanting to bike. But i think she should post about it herself, it makes it more authentic.

I don't agree one should place such expectations on minors.
She is probably already alot more active on the net than the rest of us. Tweetting, updating her facebook profil? At least almost all kids in denmark has a webprecence on a facebook alike website just for kids.

Yep, but if she knew I posted this picture:

Well, she did the ride. She had kind of a rough start, but we got going and she kept up with the group pretty well.

Here's a pic as we were rolling out of the driveway:

Her mother met us at the breakfast place in case she was done in. She finished the ride and even did a few extra miles; ending up with 31 miles. That's over double what she's done on the bike. I extended the TFT a little for her and that seemed to help some. I had to move it back in part of the way... It will probably change when she starts clipping in.

Anyway, she did pretty good and now she's ccomplaining about being sore and tired.. That's a good thing!

Most Excellent!

The bike seems perfect for her - looks like you could even mount some Origin 8 bars on there.

You realize of course your fitness will improve because soon she will be powering away from you...

Were you able to get the rear brake adapter to work?

Wish I could get my son to ride...

She likes the shifters on Paul Thumbies.. I agree the Origin 8 bars are the next logical evolution.

I haven't had time to work the adapter into the equation. Actually, I haven't taken the time to work it in.... I willl, though because the bike is due for some serious tuning before long.

I've seen brief glimpses of her sprinting off an leaving me in her dust. I know it's not far off.

So Jon.... You think I'm lying? I mean, if this is what you think, I'm sorry... for you! There are others subscribed to this board that saw Mariah ride on today's ride (Sunday) that will back it up. If you have issues with what I say or what I post, then I suggest you bring it right up to top. I have nothing to hide and nothing to soft pedal with you. Bring it on.

I think it’s great that your daughter is riding.
I can’t answer for Jon but I might be getting up earlier than him in the morning?
Young ladies are probably using the internet but the Cruzbike forum is probably not what they look at?
So for her to post something here has never crossed her mind?

No no, i do not think you are lying. Sorry if you got that impression. I just think that first person reports carry more weight than a 2. person. And i further more think that other kids or women would be more interested in her ride reports because they can identify themselves with her.

Thanks, Peder,

I have no issues if she posts over here and I would like her to, but it would have to be here idea. I think she's too busy keeping up with her friends online to be bothered with a bunch of geezers. ;)

Sorry for over-reacting. For some reason, the more I read your response, the more it dug at me and I realize (or at least, should know) you didn't mean it like that. So, I apologize for blowing up.

Like I told Peder, posting over here would have to be her idea. Maybe she will, maybe she won't.

I'm not so much into where she does post. I think there is a value to society if more kids and women post about bicycling regardless of where it is. I also see a value to Cruzbike and recumbents in general if she mentions that she does not ride an upright bike.
