Winter is coming, and with it, the inevitable question: “What’s the point of the Cruzbike Virtual Race Team when you can torture yourself outside all winter long?”
I mean, seriously, who doesn’t love braving icy roads and freezing winds? Forget Zwift and its cozy, temperature-controlled environment—nothing beats frostbite, right? Riding in subzero temps while dodging ice patches is way more fun than staying warm indoors. Who needs fingers and toes when you’ve got the thrill of an outdoor ride?
Structured workouts? Pfft. Why follow plans made by professional coaches when you can just guess how hard you're pushing as you go numb from the cold? That’s real freedom! Why let science and progress get in the way of your seasonal suffering?
Realistic riding experience? As if simulating hills and descents indoors could ever compare to the joy of slipping on wet leaves and skidding off into a ditch. Totally worth it!
Motivation from competition? Why bother racing people from all over the world on Zwift when you can ride solo in the freezing rain, wondering why no one else is out? It’s much more exciting when it’s just you, the wind, and your frozen snot.
Variety of routes? Who needs Zwift’s virtual worlds when you’ve got the same frozen loop on repeat? Sure, it’s icy, boring, and utterly desolate, but hey, it’s authentic. Every winter, the same old road becomes an emotional rollercoaster—mostly downhill.
Social interaction? Riding virtually with friends, chatting, and motivating each other—how lame! It’s way better to freeze in silence, clinging to the hope of bumping into another cyclist (if any are brave—or foolish—enough to be out there). Who needs friends when you’ve got the delightful company of freezing rain?
Consistency? Who wants regular training? It’s way more exciting when your ride depends on whether the weather decides to ruin your day. The unpredictability of winter keeps things “interesting”!
Performance tracking? Zwift might give you all this data about heart rate, power output, and speed, but hey, eyeballing your effort as your muscles freeze is way more hardcore.
Why bother with smart, effective training when you can battle the elements and “tough it out” in the most miserable ways possible?
Meanwhile, the Cruzbike Racing Team will leave the start gates tonight for Round One, Race #5 of the Zwift Racing League in what promises to be the toughest course yet. We’d love to see you join us—even if you’re one of the Boo-Birds.
