Need Tire Recommendation For Quest 559

Howdy,
I have been considering getting some new, wider tires for my Quest. I have only had the bike for about a month but have put about 220 miles on the current tires and I'm thinking I'm just not a skinny tire kinda guy. There is not much tread on my current tires and today I got a flat tire up front at 14 miles of a planned 25 mile ride. When I saw what had penetrated the tire and tube, I couldn't believe it.

I believe I read, somewhere on this forum, that I can go up to 1.5 inches wide on the Quest? Can anyone confirm that for me? The bike stores around me seem to start their inventories of 26" tires and tubes at 1.5" width and it is very difficult to find 1" tubes around here. I think I will also like to have a slightly wider tire due to the condition of many of the roads where I ride. So, can anyone recommend a tire that they just love for general cross-town commuting on asphalt and concrete? I am not very familiar with current-day bicycle tire brands.

Here is a photo of the stone shaving that brought my ride to an end today. I have passed a kidney stone that was at least twice as big as this thing!

I have found these to be very durable and puncture resisistant. These are approx. 1 1/8" wide, you won't be disappointed. With suspension wider is not necessarily better.

I run 1.5-inch (37/559) tires on my Quest 2

I run 1.5-inch (37/559) tires on my Quest 2. The sidewall says the manufacturer is WTB (Wilderness Trail Bikes). The tread is slick along the center with a slight grooving on the curve away from centerline. I've got more than 3000 miles on these guys in typical city conditions without any flats!

Now, these tires fit under the fork crown, but there's no room to fit a fender. I need fenders in this rainy place, so I modified the front one by cutting out the section just under the fork crown. It fits, but barely. No problem on the back wheel.

I do notice that the main determinant of speed is tire pressure, and these are max 90psi. I let them go a little flat (say 65psi) in winter when the streets are usually wet. I reason that this means more rubber on the road and better traction, but I've never been sure if that is true. Whaddaya think, forum?

I have continental Sports

I have continental Sports contact 1.3" on my Quest V1.0 559 and run them at the 90 psi max.
I had to do a bit of filing on the top of the front forks get them to fit, but it was worth it as very low rolling resistance (slick tyre with soft side walls) and good puncture resistance.
If wet I drop the front to 80 psi for better traction.
