Hi, I'd thought I'd post a pic of my conversion now that I've been riding for a few weeks. The donor was an older Trek VRX200 that I sourced while in Japan. Issues I encountered included the following;
Some difficulty changing the BB over. I didn't have the appropriate tool, it took me a while to realise that I needed to use heat, and the bracket from my donor seems to be wider than that on the kit. Also, the bracket for the front deraileur was fixed to the BB as well. I'm still trying to source a top pull deraileur from the local kids who regularly frequent the local rubbish tip for bike parts (I live in a small country town and I can't beat them to it!). I'm guessing I will have to resort to buying one soon.
The seat post from the donor would not fit the cruzbike seat so I have had to make do with a post from an old bmx (thanks kids) and some gaffa tape for now. I think the original post was 31.6mm. Can anyone point me towards a source of a post that would fit, or do I have to get one welded?
I also had a problem early on with the cruzbike seat sliding sideways no matter how much I tightened the clamps. This was resolved with a couple of tekscrews into the frame.
Another small issue is a noise that is coming from the rear wheel. I think that I have identified that as a loose spoke though.
Otherwise it's happy days on my new head turning, smile provoking bike......and despite trying on some rough tracks, I haven't come off it yet!
