New Cruzbike Owner

Hello Everyone, I am a new Cruzbike S40 owner. I did quite a bit of research before finally committing to this frame, and am pleased that I did as it is a great machine. I only have about 70 miles under my belt, so I am still tweaking a few things technique wise and also with overall fit.
I crossed over from a Giant Defy Composite and pretty much utilized most of the components for the S40 build so I could get more of a side-by-side comparison between the two.
With that said, here is my current build:
Shimano 9100 bottom bracket
Shimano Ultegra 6800 crankset (175mm)
Absolute Black Oval Chainring
Bontrager Aeolus Pro 3 carbon wheels
Stock front rim brake Shimano 105
Tektro R559, long reach rear rim brake

I will eventually go with a smaller crankset (probably 165mm) and disc brakes, but for now, it rides pretty well.

Welcome, Todd. Here's to many miles on your new S40. There are many CB owners here with years of experience who are willing to share what works for them with you.

Welcome to the tribe Todd - you will definitely like shorter cranks when you get around to - I would make your first change - you will be surprised how much shorter will help and feel better -- use this calculator - http://www.recumbents.com/wisil/misc/crank_angle.asp
I ride between 140-150 - there is no lose of power - if anything you can spin up faster because you are moving you legs less distance through the air.
Good luck!

- where do you live?

Congratulations.

We’re you able to get the oval chainring alignment correct?

The absolute black don’t have an adjustment mechanism. Make sure it is helping you and not hurting you.

I couldn’t use that one on any of my recumbent bikes.

If you have any doubts and you have a round chainring available, you might give it a try as an experiment.

good luck. I am sure you will enjoy it.

Thanks Brad. I did get the alignment to work with this build. I have a double ring in the front, but only use the large ring. In fact, I didn't even install a front derailleur. I do plan on upgrading the crankset from the current 175mm to a 165mm and will go with a single round sprocket at that time.

If you’re going 1x, make sure to go narrow/wide tooth profile on the front ring. Makes a world of diff on 1x chain retention

Lol, thanks. Seemed like a logical place to carry my pepper spray.
Hey I am glad I am not the only person who carries a pepper spray on the bike! I rubber band it on my handlebar so that I can whip it out while riding to spray at chasing Rottweilers. :)

Pepper spray......well gun holster my guffaw I thought you were riding a condiment s40 special. Soon you’ll leave the mutt in your dust.

Welcome to the tribe a nicer bunch of helpful souls you will not find.

I don’t think we can get pepper spray here in Australia. Guess I’ll just leave the salt pillar on the neckrest.

We sure are getting a load of Cruzbikers in FL!
I wish I could find another Cruzer here in the Willamette Valley to ride with.
I'm just a bit faster than my upright riding brothers & sisters and I do like to Cruz at a high speed.
I tried converting a good road biking buddy but he couldn't surmount the learning curve :(

We left Florida for Oregon 13 years ago, practically before Cruzbikes were invented - I think just the conversion kit was available then.
Now there seem to be Cruzbikers all over the central & southern portions of the sunshine state.
