New Cruzbike S40 Build

Just joining the Tribe with a new S40 build. This is also my first time building up a bike from a basic frame. I purchased this back in September and have been slowly putting it together. I still have to wrap the bars after a few more adjustments. I am also still waiting on a new set of wheels with dynohub to be delivered. I took it on its first ride last night for about 6 or 7 miles. I plan on using this to ride brevets next year. IMG_0039-edit.jpg IMG_0040-edit.jpg IMG_0395-edit.jpg IMG_0396-edit.jpg IMG_0397-edit.jpg IMG_0398-edit.jpg

Beautiful orange in contrast to the matte black. Looks like a great setup for those long Brevet rides.

Nice looking build. Love the orange. No problem w the Sram Force 22 RD and 36 toothcasette? Sram rates that RD for a max of 32 teeth.

Btw, since this is a road bent (but not a lowracer), it might be a good idea to swap 11T-13T-15T first teeth to 13-14-15 from an other road casette (like 13-25 Sora, it's 9sp but you can swap in thinner spacers, I've did it myself and works just fine). Spinning above 50x13 on wider 700c tires is not that effective on downhills and unless you are Lance - not really attainable on flats (on shorter cranks especially), and would result it a MUCH smoother (and more useful) upper range.

EDIT:

Oh, that is 11-speed 11-12-13-15... cassette.
Well, my point still stands, but something like 12-13-14-15 would be more useful than. Easier to obtain, too, and no need for custom spacers.

EDIT2:

Lol, first review:

Great Looking bike and build!
I am envious of the tyre clearance to the rear brake bridge with a 700c rim!!
What tyre size is it?

Yep, that’s a MTB 10 speed rear derailleur with 11 speed cassette. I’ll need to dig through my old parts to see if I have anything compatible to get those closer and more useful gear selections.

Tires are 700C x 32 Compass Stampede Pass. Plenty of room to go up in size if I leave off fenders. But since I will be using this for brevets, I’ll be adding them on at some point along with a rear rack.

What road type brifters are you using. The GX rear derailleur is an X accuation but all the road brifters are Exact accuation so the cable pull ratio is different. Unless I’m missing something.

I forgot to add that I am using Sram Force 22 - 11 speed brifters in the build. No issues with a 10 speed Exact accuation GX rear derailleur, with 11 speed cassette. I’ve had no shifting issues so far. But then again I have only ridden it about 14 - 15 miles around my neighborhood.

Yea, what matters is actuation ratio ('exact' to 'exact'), not number of speeds. Shifter takes care of that.

What fenders are you considering using?

I have Kendra Kriterium Endurance 700x30c tires. Going to try Cascadia ALX 700c x 35mm fenders. Robert at Cruzbike thot they would fit, but reading the specs of the fender has me questioning the tolerances.

Guess I'll try these Cascadia fenders and if they don't fit, return them.

Great looking bike. Congrats on the successful build! Do you live where you can ride outside this time of year ? I hope you will be able to. That orange really stands out. I have the grey v1 with orange accents I wish I would have waited a couple of months to get the 2019 model. Smooth riding, Tim.

I have an old set of Cascadia 700x35s hanging in the garage that I was going to try on it.. I haven't put them on yet, but they appear as they would fit. I had them on another recumbent but was using them with 650b x38s

I wish I could ride outdoors more often. I live in the North Western suburbs of Chicago, its a bit cold but I do get out to ride even in the subzero temps. However, I've been fighting off a cold the past few weeks and haven't had a chance to ride since the snow/ice has melted again.
