New S40 Owner

...wish I had taken the short crank advice on this forum before starting out with the longer ones initially.
Yes, I agree....I have a 2014 Silvio 2.1+...purchased as a demo bike from Robert Holler. He told me that it was from the last batch before they came out with the S30 (at least that is my understanding). I never swapped out the longer cranks...just stupid I guess. I keep it on my Kickr 2018 and started getting knee pain recently so, I went out to recumbents.com and found out why. I now have a new S40 sitting in my kitchen awaiting 145mm cranks from Bikesmith design. Once they're in, on the go!

Now I just need to do the same thing for my Silvio 2.1+.

My Silvio 2.1 came with FSA cranks, SRAM X9 Rear Mech and SRAM 10 speed cassette. Was that the same setup you had? What Bikesmith design cranks did you put on your Silvio 2.1? Did you have to replace the bottom bracket?
Yes, that is the same setup that was on my Silvio. I bought cranks from Bikesmith design (Sram Apex). The cranks came with a bottom bracket. My local bike shop installed the cranks. Now, I have the knowledge and tools to do it myself. Thanks to the forum being so helpful; I have learned tons.

The FSA cranks that came on my Silvio can’t be shortened. Yours are probably the same ones. I did get shortened Sram apex crank arms that I used with the FSA rings for my S30. I purchased the crank arms from Chicorider here on the forum. He helped me tremendously.

Bikesmith design (Sram Apex) cranks are installed! Thanks for all the help, friends! I will say that getting the original cranks off was quite a task after having had shoulder surgery last year at this time. But I prevailed! I decided to go to Crankbrother Candy pedals since my favorite "Speedplay Frogs" pedals are no longer made. Never used Crankbrother pedals before and they are a bit heavier but seem to provide a good foot platform...I guess we'll see.

BTW, what happened to the Cruzbike emoji that we used to have? :cruzbike:
