On Friday I rode around the block several times just to get a feel of control and balance. Learning to launch will take some practice. Much to learn!
Early Saturday morning I packed up and went out to the nice flat wide concrete ride and walk trail by the Rio Grande. It was like learning to ride when I was five or six years old. Staying upright, not so bad, though both brifters are already scratched up a bit. I am glad there were not many people out as I was all over the width of that trail for the first few miles. After a while I was able to steer straight without pedaling as I passed a biker or runner. About 16 miles for my effort. Much more to learn!
Today I decided to try some quiet roads. Another early start. I was able to keep the bike in a straight line longer today but other bike riders could see they needed to give me a wide berth. About 22 miles. I've got to install that bike computer on this bike.
I have been launching from a stop by pushing off with both feet in an awkward waddle and then sliding down the seat back.
I've found that I do better picking up the pedals if I aim for both at the same time rather than attempting one at a time.
I'm going to have to try with one foot on the pedal and one on the ground to get started.

Bruce,

Sounds like a nice build, right up my alley!

The key to launching straight is to counter with your off arm. In other words, if you launch with your right leg, you need to counter with your left arm. It's like a dance and it gets to be second nature straight away.

The fun has just begun! Congratulations!

Bike porn would be nice, of course!

When I start out, or on hill climbs I pull on the handle bar on the same side that I push the peddle. What do you think of this :?: I ask you because we all know you certainly know how to ride.. Keep those ride reports coming , great stuff.. Take Care... Bill

Bill, it's the same difference. When reading my reply, it dawned on me I push with the left and pull with the right as I push with my right leg. It's a pretty powerful stroke and requires equal resistance. Once you're moving, it takes less upper body input, of course, but starting out is different.

Mark and Bill,
Thanks for the comments on starting technique.
I have three small jpegs of the bike ready to go. Can they be posted here without going through a link to another site? I have not found instructions at CruzeBike.com on how post pictures.

You can upload direct. Look underneath the reply window, there is a tab titled "upload attachment".

I find to my amazement, again, how the mind's eye can block out what is right in front of one's eyes. Because the "upload attachment" was grayed out, the link did not register as even being there.
Here are three photos of the new project. Hope you like them.
