Not-a-'Mark B.'-Report

Cold and windy days are easy days to talk yourself out of riding. Once you get out there, it's just a bike ride! Funny how a rabbit can make you go above and beyond the ordinary, eh?

Yeah, chasing is fun for sure and so is being chased.
Playing keep-away is a good workout.

It's weird, working out in Winter weather.
46 degrees F. at 20+ MPH feels kind of chilly.

What's even weirder?
I saw a bunch of cars parked in the local DF rider's club
parking lot today.
Their bike carriers empty.
So there were at least six bikers, on DF bikes, playing
on the roads with me today.

I can't imagine biking upright on a DF bike in cold weather.
I'd freeze.
Reclining on my Cruzbike, I only feel the breeze on the soles of my
feet and my fingertips.

Those guys (and gals) are dedicated bike nuts!

I left the house this morning and it was only 44. I only wore arm and leg warmers, glove liners and toe covers. I was fine. Yesterday, I put a jacket, ear warmers and skull cap on and was too hot at 45 degrees.

It was unseasonably warm the day before yesterday.
So, naturally, I went riding.

Wow.
These old muscles of mine really work better when the air is warm:
it was almost 60 degrees F.
Just like Summer time, but not nearly as sweaty.
-----
On the home stretch, a car slowed to match my speed.
The passenger window powered down.
The driver, swerving toward me, yelled something like:
"I wanna see your bike!"

At the same time, I'm dodging debris in the breakdown lane,
while this car is edging ever closer.

Now, naturally, I was flattered by the attention.
And, of course, kind of floored by the boorish self-interest
of the car driver.

The driver sped up,
pulled in front of me
and stopped in my lane.

I am on a schedule, you see.
I care for my mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's,
and was on my way home, to take over my mom's care
from the hired home-care worker.
I had no time to spare.

Seeing that the road was clear behind me, I crossed to the other side
of the road.
And turned toward home, leaving the pushy car driver parked
on the side of the road in the breakdown lane.

Now, if you're the driver in this story and you are reading this,
please accept my apologies.
I had places to go and things to do.

Maybe next time you can have a note in your pocket where you have written down a link to the Cruzbike Forum? He must have been impressed of your bike and your speed? If you meet him again later he might also get a chance to find out that you have modified your Sofrider?
Here the temperature was -5°C this morning and a little wind. The coldest temperature measured in Norway is -51.4°C it never gets that cold on the coast the coldest I have experienced is -17°C some years ago. Sibir has had -68°C, North Pole -40°C doesn’t get colder because it’s on sea level. The South Pole which is a continent and much of the land is over 3000 meter the temperature has been measured to -89°C. I don’t think they have many roads there anyway.

55 degrees F. today, after weeks of Arctic air, ice and snow.
So I went riding, of course.

I immediately noted the marked decrease in performance
of my Sofrider:
that Obama inauguaration party I attended is one of the reasons.
Great party:
Awesome, bottomless food;
open wine bar and, for once, I was not the designated driver.
As a result of that party, combined with all that time off of the bike,
the motor gained some weight.
Nevertheless, I managed to keep in front of the one DF rider
who was trying to overtake me... for five miles.
When I turned around to retrace my route home,
I waved to my pursuer.
She's about half my age and her legs are bigger than mine ever were!
Wow.
This Sofrider really is a mythic machine.
-I'm pretending that she was actually trying hard to catch me, you know.
Here's hoping the weather is nice enough to ride, at least
a few times per week!

Is Politics allowed? ;) It seems all that food wasn’t all good for your health? I suppose all of us have to be careful of too much food? It’s a good thing you got a Sofrider so you can burn some calories and the weather will probably improve or you will have to invest in winter tires? :) :D
