I thought I'd start a clean post on my hub installation of NuVinci N360 CVT hub as the original post was about Quest running gear being fitted on Sofrider and then it turned to internally geared hubs.
First of don't believe the dealer/bike shop has any idea of what they're doing most haven't even seen this hub and don't bother to read the instructions.
My case the bike shop did a half-baked job but at least they still helped to sort it out.
First mistake they forgot to check they received the correct hub and fitted the earlier model N170/171, to spite the fact I emailed them to double check N360 model.
Second mistake (part A) when reordering the correct hub they didn't check if the spokes they had fitted in the wrong hub would be ok, the N360 has smaller diameter to the N170/171, another 2 day wait.
Second mistake (part B) when reordering the correct hub again I asked them make sure you have the correct sprocket to suit the new hub, they didn't they again assumed the other one would be ok it wasn't (screw on type, N360 9 spline type) lucky the hub was supplied with 18t sprocket (I needed 16t but it got me going).
Third mistake they supplied the wrong chain (1/8") the hub needed 3/32", and the chain tensioner didn't align with the sprocket again stuck with running extra spacer to get it aligned (I'll revisit this later to get it right) they gave me a 8 speed chain they thought would be ok but it rides up the sprocket at one specific spot on the chain it works but you can't push too hard on the pedals as it starts to jump (hills in low gear where fun almost had to walk!).
Hoping to pick up the 3/32" chain tonight crossing everything that it works, I'm pressed for time with the RAC bike hike is 24/3/13 local charity ride and not ridden much with all these problems.
The Fallbrook (USA) / Southcott Australia agent have supplied the 2012 model with 2010/11 instructions and they have redesigned the shift adaptor setup and it was confusing looking at one thing in the instructions and looking at something different in your hands but worked it out in the end.
But the hub itself, it's heavy but this doesn't bother me for my style of riding, the one thing I found is it helps stabilise the bike, bit like a gyroscope (it is full of oil) gear shifting or sliding is brilliant just a gentle push on the shifter twist grip dials you into the prefect ratio especially on down shifting just push with the inside of your thump and pedalling gets easier a little more resistants on upshifting but still easy.
I tried a full stop in top gear, wound back on the shifter you stop about a quarter of a turn than while gently turning the pedal a half turn whilst twisting the shifter gets you back to low gear, brilliant the main thing I was looking for.

Link on installation http://www.parktool.com/blog/calvins-corner/NuVinci-360-Hub+ this is the 2010/11 model the shift adaptor on the axle is different to 2012 model.
Costing around the $600 (Australian) if you can mount the hub yourself (lace it up) and use your own rim it would be cheaper but I wanted to keep the standard setup as spare.
Hope this helps others who are looking for alternatives to derailleurs.
