One shot cleats...!

Hey Rats...or anyone, my Frog cleats only lasted for one ride...O K it was 380 miles plus a 10 mile test ride but that seams pretty short to me. Has anyone had a problem with them wearing out rapidly ? It is the hook part on the side of the cleat that wore out there by making the clearance between the pedal and cleat so big it won't stay engaged. I appreciate all comments....Thanks.

That's very strang. I've found the cleats to last me around 3000 to 4000 miles. I've gone through 2 pair now, and am on my third. This is with the frog hack.

Sounds like the adjustment screw wasn't set correctly at the factory I would contact speedplay support. The screw is adjustable but it's meant to be factory set and you need soldering iron usually to break the locktite.

I have a similar issue with my Frog V3 cleats. I have tried slightly tightening the set screw but it didn't help and I didn't need a soldering iron. The set screw was loose enough to adjust. I think we need to contact Speedplay support--maybe we got a bad batch.

That does sound odd the screw should be locked down at the factory to the point that you'd snap your allen wrench trying to turn it....

Mine had lots of for and aft movement...I left them at that because someone told me they were adjusted correctly from the factory. Maybe their gauge is off ?

You're correct Bob. I bought a new set of cleats and unlike the first set they are tight on the pedals. Also the first set had no Locktite on the set screws, I could easily turn the screws with the Allen wrench, but the second set are locked solid. It appears as though the first set never got adjusted !
Thank you all for your help in this matter, it's greatly appreciated.

My first set worked fine. A second set wouldn't stay on. Thought it might be me (new clip user), but the third set worked fine. Called Speedplay and they sent me a new set. I still have the bad ones, they didn't want them back, so I'll have to check the set screw out now.

I have been experiencing undesired unclipping. At first it was onesey twoesy thing. Now it's up to half dozen in a 3 hour ride. I have about 3,000 miles usage. I was wondering if the part on the shoe needed cleaning, but it sounds like it might need replacing after reading this thread.

I have mine pair of cleats more than 2 years and 8000 miles. Plate holding cleat attached is much thinner on left side. I would be change it soon.

I have another issue with Frogs. I use pedal stop to correct possition of my feets, I need it for my knees. One of this stops has broken off. My pedals are out of warranty so I had one side Frog on right leg. Spare pedal bodys are sold only in pairs :(

Unexpected unclipping is a good indicator your shoe clips are wearing out need replacing especially given the amount of miles you have. I've gone through several sets now, and have found when that starts to happen consistently, they're worn out. Oh what a difference it is once replaced.

Thanks, Rick, for your perspective that I can take to the bank, or at least to the LBS. The undesired unclipping is annoying but not debilitating to my ride so I will try to squeeze out a few more miles before replacing. I look forward to that
