Possible to mod for gates carbon drive and internal hub?

If you're going to use an eccentric bottom bracket to get the correct belt tension then I would highly recommend the Tr!ckstuff Exzentriker. I use one on my single speed (chain drive) diamond-frame bike. The Exzentriker is a superb bit of kit. I use mine with a Shimano 105 Hollowtech II crankset.

I don't have a video to hand. Would the instruction manual which has several pictures, be of assistance instead? :)
I wouldn't post images of my diamond-framed bike on here of course. ;):)

So this will fit without modification?
Even if so, it seems like a very small adjustment length.
I still think a telescoping chain stay extender would be much better and allow for much longer adjustments.

I doubt it-- the shoulders would be too wide for the standard clamp-diameter on the derailleur-stem/carboyoke adapter.

It's unfortunate that he didn't complete his project. At least he shows shimano internal gear hubs are possible with the silvio and some shaving.

It's an old post, have there been any updates to the silvio forks since then?

Actually I believe he got it fully working. I think there is another thread somewhere with some more info. John T had shared some CAD drawings to help him out. It is really unfortunate the images weren't preserved as there was some phenomenal detail showing progress and how it all worked out.

Hi Fred & Eric. Sorry about the radio silence. I haven't been by the Forum in a coons age.

Fred, I share your aversion to chain. This also motivated my desire for the geared hub and Gates belt. I installed the Shimano Nexus 8 hub as described in thread referenced above by Eric (thanks Eric). As Eric notes, the pix of the 3D dropout design and the hub installation have disappeared which makes the thread hard to read. Since my last post, I have also made additional mods to the OEM dropouts, added a chain tensioner, and installed a Shimano BioPace 42 chain ring.

My original intent was to make custom dropouts so that I could use the Gates system. I still believe it is feasible to put the Gates system on the Silvio. However I have decided not to for these reasons: With no derailleurs the chain is really not bothersome. My knees are happy with the BioPace. I am not inclined to mess with something that works unless it is annoying me.

FWIW, from my experience I can report that ...

1) a Silvio with geared hub and "fixie" chain arrangement works great and is trouble free.

2) the annoyance of the chain is dramatically reduced because the geared hub eliminates the derailleurs.

I would be happy to post pix of the dropout design and/or my current hub/fixie installation if these are of interest.

George, I think there would be a lot of interest in mounting an 8 or 14 speed geared hub in the Silvio, now that the forks are 132.5 mm spacing!
Is the timing of the Biopace chain-ring for a Silvio now very similar to the Qring?

Thanks Slim. I don't know about the timing vs the Qring. As you probably know, the BioPace is not very adjustable, since you only have 5, or maybe 10, ways to bolt it to the crank, many of which are probably irrelevant. In any event, I simply followed the BioPace instructions regarding where the timing mark should go WRT the crank as if I were riding a "normal" (hah) bike.
