Ok so I'm interested in all this but I want an opinion?

I just ordered a full red 22 groupset with a 110bcd gxp crankset with 52-36 rings. My buddy recommended I toss on a 34t for my big mt race in two weeks which is something I hadn't even considered until now. Will any of those 34t q-rings work on my red 22 crankset and allow the proper clocking for optimal use? I'll be on the 52t round ring but I should have an issue going back and forth because of the course profile.

The 28c tires if not already sold. will they fit the V20 front and rear? Caliper clearance isn't an issue for me because I'm going disk. I was thinking more along the lines of 25-26c for the aero advantage with my new 27mm wide wheels coming in but I'm thinking for a pure comfort over chipseal roads during training 28c tires could be nice.

If you think any of this will fit and is a good idea let me know and I'll hook you up via pay pal asap

Tubes got sold yesterday and are gone.

The 34T ring will fit a RED 22 family that's what I've already run them with. RED/FORCE/RIVAL/Apex which are all inter-compatible. You just need to have enough capacity in your Front Derailleur to handle the 18T offset. What we should probably do is send you both the 34T and 36T Qring. The 36T gives you a max of 38T on it's big diameter and 34T on it's little diameter. The 36T is much more oval than the 34T which is almost round because it's constrained by the 110BCD diameter.

That way you can try both, but I think you find that the 36T gives you the best of all worlds and will shift more cleanly. Also with the 34T I always run a chain spotter because downshifting off the 52T was always a challenge. For reference we went to a 39T QXL (supper ovalized) inner ring this year; and that's even better that the 36T was as it has even broader effective range. If you want to be precise the rings are 10% oval to take the stated size and add and subtract 5% so the 36T is 34.2T x 37.8T. on the 34T they can't quiet get the lower 5% to be that small. The 34T is more like 34Tx35.7T

So both will work I just think the 36T will give you probably more of what you want. We ran 52/36 all last year.

well all the concern is related to this 20,000' double century in two weeks and the progressively harder climbs as you get deeper into the race. I'm currently climbing with a low gear of 34-36 but with new red 22 med cage RD I'm limited to a 32t max cog size. So heading into a race where I'm currently unsure If I can ride without walking the 3.5 mile 10% grade climb at the 150 mile mark and I'm going to a setup with 2 teeth in the front and 4 teeth in the rear taller. It's really only this race on a bike that I can't get out of the saddle on that's putting me in this conundrum. I'm going to order a set of 25mm Conti 4000S tires and I see they also sell 34t sram inner rings for cheapish so maybe I'll get both the 34t sram and your 36t Q. The Q will be fine for every other event for sure so it wont be wasted money if I can't use it this race.

Let me get through my taxes that I'm about to start and I'll hit you later with a PM for the 36t Q

Thanks

I've got some SRAM 34T rounds you can just have. they are listed above for 8$ but that was mostly to cover my effort. If I ship you qrings I can just toss it in the box; it's a brand new unused take-off from our SRAM cranks.

Are for 10s or 11s?
I'm seeing this on the rings from competitive cyclist so I started looking elsewhere for 11 speed inner rings
The SRAM Red X-Glide Chainring - Road is available in 110 and 130 millimeter BCDs (Bolt Circle Diameters) ranging from 34 to 39 teeth for the inner ring and 50 to 55 teeth for the outer ring. There are two color options, Blast Black and Falcon Grey. Please note that they are only compatible with SRAM 10-speed cranks.

  • CNC-machined 7075-T6 aluminum
  • Compatible with SRAM Yaw 10-speed front derailleur

Marketing fooey as far as I know.

The Rotors are 10/11 speed compatible the date from the era of 11sp. The SRAM are stamped 10 speed; and I have never had a problem running a KMC 11SXL chain on them; and that's with a waxed chain. As far as I recall 11sp chains are actually thiner on the outside at the plates; not the inside; that's why the space on the front cranks spider hasn't changed in all case "except for sram" they claim it makes YAW work better I say fooey on that. Also Some 11sp rings are actually wider at the tooth.

The answer related the Quarq power meeter is telling.

Answer from SRAM/Quarq:

Ten-speed chainrings can be installed on an 11-speed crank, just as 11-speed chainrings can be installed on a 10-speed crank. The spiders are identical. However, all of our groups are designed to function as complete groups, so if a 10-speed crank is installed in an 11-speed group or vice versa, we strongly recommend changing to the appropriate chainrings. Ten- and 11-speed should not be mixed. Our 22 groups actually have the chainrings slightly farther apart than our 10-speed groups, in order to ensure that all cogs can be safely reached in the small ring, and the chain and front derailleur are specifically designed to work with that gap. Running a 10-speed chain on 11-speed rings or an 11-speed chain on 10-speed rings could cause chain jams or derailments.

So yes, purchase the power meter of your choice, knowing that it will still be usable when you go 11-speed, but make sure you have 10-speed rings on it when you run it with a 10-speed group.
