Time for some new tires but the specs for the Quest 1.0 seem to be gone from the site.
Looking at purchasing some 28-559 tires.
Will these fit on the front?
thanks.

Hi,
From reading this

Hi,

From reading this response from Doug, I believe 28-559 is the largest size tire that you can get for the front. So (assuming I'm right), yes, that should fit on the front (and rear as well).

Cheers,
Charles

Doug says "The Quest 1.0

Doug says "The Quest 1.0 accepts only 1" wide and narrower tires, due to the fork crown design. "
28 mm is 1.1 inches

But looking at the 25-559 Marathons I currently have, it looks like there *might * be enough clearance for a 28mm tire.

Not sure what will happen at high speed if the tire deforms a bit though.
Maybe I could file a little bit off the bottom of the fork.
I am just wondering if anyone has put a 28mm tire on a Quest 1.0.

Crikey!  I don't know why I

Crikey! I don't know why I keep insisting that 28mm is an inch when I know full well it's 25.4mm. Nice catch.

559 x 28

These tires vary in actual carcass cross-section. Just because the sidewall is labeled 28mm, doesn't mean that's really its size. So some tires will barely fit, some won't and out-of-round tires won't work at all.

To fit Specialized Fatboys to my Q1.0, I had to modify the fork crown. This is a bad idea, since the modification invades the weld areas that make the lower connection of the fork legs to the steerer tube. It requires constant monitoring for cracking, and nobody rides this bike but me. Ever.

We modified the dimensions of the Q2.0 fork to give more crown clearance because of this. The Q2.0 will accept 559 x 38 (1.5 in.) with a close fit and no fender clearance.

Cheers,

Doug

Thanks Doug, so I guess I

Thanks Doug, so I guess I will takes my chances & hope the 28s will fit.

What size were the Specialized Fatboys that you managed to fit?

The limited tire selection with the 1.0 is a bit of a nusance, is there any chance of getting a 2.0 fork?

thanks
Richard

V1 Quest 26" tyres

I have a set of 26"*1.3" Continental Sports Contacts on my V1 Quest with no worries. GREAT tyre with low rolling res., good puncture resistance, and GOOD grip.

I modified the fork to get them to fit. This was done principally to evaluate what changes we shoudl make to the Q2.0 fork. I used a shell mill and took 6mm out of the fork crown.

Not Recommended based on my experience with it.

None of my bikes are stock as part of my role around here is to prototype modifications for the next model, using the previous model as a basis for evaluation.

Quest V1.0 max tire size

I've fitted Perfomance Fast City 26 x 1.25 tires to my V1.0 Quest. These leave less than 2mm of clearance to the fork. They're OK commuter tires, but tend to pick up "goat heads" (a local thorn) in the late summer & fall. (See picture below.)

Schwalbe Durano 28-559

Well my tires came in yesterday.
Just like to report that a "Schwalbe Durano Folding Tyre - 26 x 1.1" (28-559) will fit on a Quest 1.0 with ample room to spare.
thanks all
Richard
