The installation instructions for the cruzbike underseat rack have a hanger extension bracket and show using the top hole (which puts the triangle as low as possible). Is that a requirement? It seems like I could put it up higher than that - perhaps by two holes or possible not use the extension bracket at all. What concerns should I have?
Why am I asking...
I got these Universal Pannier "Bird or Prey" hooks (https://pannierhooks.com/product/bird-of-prey-v2/) that are designed to allow a normal backpack to be used as a pannier bag. They would definitely work on a rear pannier very easily. They work on the under seat pannier too, but the clearance from the bottom of the backpack to the ground is maybe 2 inches. I think if I could raise this by another inch and a half or two then the clearance would be fine for the biking I do.
I also own the everyday pannier bag from Cruzbike and that's also good. But I'd really like to use my backpack, as one thing I'd like to be able to do is ride to a trail head and then grab my backpack and go for a hike (backpack could have any supplies, plus anything I don't want to leave on the bike for security reasons such as easy to steal things). Also, if I want to carry more, I could even use both the everyday pannier bag on one side and my backpack on the other.
Certainly I could just buy a rear rack and if I ever do "adventuring" I certainly would. But for the riding I do right now I do like having the extra weight under the seat - much better place to have the weight closer to center mass.
Thanks for responding in advance!
