Question About Videos (Posting)

I am an absolute unschooled noob when it comes to posting videos. In fact, about all I can do (or need to do at this point) is use Garmin Virb Edit with its limited features, to post short clips to Facebook.

I both a Fly 12 and a Fly 6 on my Silvio 2.0+ and the problem I am having is that when I do post to Facebook, the video quality really sucks. Am I doing something wrong? Is there anything I can do to enhance the quality?

TIA

Both of the Fly's record the video a raw files you can grab from the them as USB devices. That works better than using the supplied video software it's just not that good.

Once you have the raw files it depends on what computer you have; pretty trivial on an Apple machine to crunch out the video. I use iMovie or Final Cut depending what I'm doing. iMovie will do 90% of the work.

If you are on windows; you either get really good at using the free stuff the hard way; or your use Adobe Premier.

If you let use know what computer type you are using; someone will likely be able to point your nose in the correct direction.

If you are going to drop stuff like Meta data on the videos your work flow will be

FlyXX --> USB Copy --> Convert AVI to MP4 (random favorite tool) --> Preposing (Crop, Clean, sound track, PiP) Tool of choice iMove, Final Cut, Premiere, -->PostProcessing (Meta Data) Virb Edit

I'm using a pc...Windows 10. Using Garmin VIRB, I have been able to get through the FlyXX --> USB Copy --> Convert AVI to MP4 (random favorite tool) --> "LIMITED" Preposing --> Exporting stage, but when I post to Facebook, the videos really don't come out well. Also, you mentioned in another post that you were able to crop out your feet. I can't find a way to do that with VIRB.

Thanks again...

You are correct VirbEdit does not have cropping in it; it did, but they took it out several versions ago.

To do the cropping on a PC you'd probably want to invest in Movavi Video Editor, it's about $40 and a lot easier to use than Windows Movie Maker. You do the cropping before the VirbEdit Stage. Basically VIRB goes last because it is going to make a ton of pixel changes that blow the compression of the H.264 off kilter; once the overlays are in you don't want to be doing any other editing if you can avoid it as the compression of a "resave" will mess up the overly readability

As for Facebook yeah their video processor sucks and it doesn't really like all the pixel mods that virbedit does; best to get a youtube account setup; publish there; and then share those links on facebook.
