Due to an injury, I have a limited vertical range of motion on my neck. So, since I cannot ride a Vendetta, I ride a Silvio 3.0. But it is not just for touring--I race on it and just finished the Mid-Atlantic 12 hour race with 172 miles. Yes, the seat angle is higher, but I am very pleased with the Silvio 3.0 for racing.
Here are some numbers from Saturday's effort; the one I find so cool is the overall speed/power ratio--talk about efficient riding!:
Duration of Race: 12 hours, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm
Competitors: 32 riders, 3 on recumbents (full results not yet posted)
Course: 26 mile loop
Mileage completed: 172 miles
Elevation Gain: 1,864 feet (which is astonishingly FLAT!)
Moving time: 10 hours, 58 minutes
Average speed: 16.1 mph (final lap speed-17 mph)
Average cadence: 82 rpm (59,040 pedal strokes, but who’s counting?)
Average heart rate: 116 bpm
Average power: 82 watts (my cycling friends know that is amazingly efficient for the distance and speed!)
Maximum power: 497 watts
Temperature: 77 @ 7:00 am; 94 degrees @ 3:00 pm
Winds: 12-18 mph sustained (11:00 am to 7:00 pm), gusting to 25 mph (headwind or crosswind for 18 miles on each lap!)
Calories burned: approx. 5,000
Fluids consumed: approx. 8-10 liters
Pit crew support: Priceless
Recovery sleep: 21 hours from 9 pm Sat to 7:30 am Mon
