Recumbent Rally

Bent Up Cycles in Van Nuys, CA is sponsoring a recumbent rally next weekend June 20-22. Will a representative from Cruzbike be there? I was in the shop a few weeks ago to buy a Radical bag for my Sofrider and saw a couple of Cruzbikes on display. I also registered for the rally.
Another question: Are there any other Cruzbike riders who are planning to attend this event?

Kind of did a recumbent rally preride today. Left my place around 9 and went to the Santa monica pier to Marina Del Rey.Ride down was fun with little traffic.Came back around 1:30 what a zoo had to keep the speed down to under 10mph and still passed around 2or 300 people. My plan for sunday is to start the ride at 9 and ride to the Mahatten Beach pier then turn around. This should make for an ok ride.I will be on the Silvio for this one. Jack

Hi Jack -
My daughters are both living in L.A. this summer and will be "official" representatives of Cruzbike at the Rally on Saturday only. You'll remember Genna from Interbike '06. Lucia is working at the L.A. Times this summer. They are both competent on a Cruzbike, though Lucia just got started. I shipped them out show material from Interbike, so they'll have a nice banner and a few giveaway items. Bent-Up Cycles has a Freerider and Sofrider for demo rides.

Maria and I rode on the trail at the Santa Monica pier earlier this year and I sold my Freerider on the spot to someone who had been reading about them online. That's a beautiful place to ride.

It was just too hot to fight the traffic friday so stayed home.I cleaned up my Silvio so we can put it with the other Cruzbikes on sat. Im glad Cruzbike will at least be there. Jack

Jim and Maria,
I enjoyed meeting your daughters on Saturday at the recumbent rally. If their careers of choice don't work out I'm sure they could sell a Cruzbike or two. Ha! They have probably given you a report by now, but to my impression there seemed to be a fair amount of interest in the bike. Many asked questions and we pooled our resources to answer everything we could. Several people took test rides. The draw back is the "learning curve". There is really not enough time at an event like that to get comfortable with the bike. But aside from the scorching heat it was an enjoyable time. The girls gave me one of the Cruzbike t-shirts you sent and I wanted to thank you for that.
Unfortunately, I missed the ride today. A radiator hose on my car started leaking and I can't get it fixed til tomorrow. I am in Irvine (about 70 miles from the ride location) so I didn't want to risk the car overheating. Maybe Jack made the ride and would have something to say about that time.
Thanks again,
Tom Roberts

I've noticed in the small sample I've talked to, that it is actually fairly easy to get older people up and rolling. The teens and young 20s don't listen, don't have enough experience or don't pay attention when I demo the bike. 40s and up, they may not be ready to ride in heavy traffic or performance events, but they can get it going and keep it straight enough to cruise around a little.

I had a good time at the rally.Nice meeting everyone. For the Sunday ride I rode from my house so ended up with 46 miles.Didn't have any trouble keeping up with the faster high racers at 18 to 19 mph.About 150 riders were there and the food was great.Dana knows how to put on a first class event.
