It was another beautiful day last Sunday and this time I took the camera along. Despite the previous day being only 9 degrees and raining all day today was a fairer 14 degrees with light to moderate winds.
The ride follows the Maribyrnong river trail to Williamstown where I came across a group of riders helping their colleague fix a flat. His third for that day. I looked around the other riders tyres and noticed a big contingent of Conti Gatorskins. I asked the question about the tyres each thought were best and nearly all liked what they had despite brands and sizes. Even the guy fixing flats didn't seem to care because he payed "bugger all" for his (logic?).
Many questions were asked about the Cruzbike and they all commented on how comfortable I looked on it.
I bade them farewell and casually rode on thinking If I'm going to get a puncture after having negative thoughts about the dude who didn't care about his tyres...
From there I headed East towards the city of Melbourne but before that is a modern development called Docklands which is looking promising with a huge direction placed on bike lanes and walking tracks. Really great place for cycling around.
After that there is a rail trail to Port Melbourne and the Beach Road ride to the famous Saint Kilda (sorry Jon but nothing on the beach this weather)
From there a visit to my Bent friendly bike store to say hello and see whats new. A quick coffee, a check over by the guys there and a few funny moments when they tried to ride the Sofrider around the car park. I was a little worried about damage both to the bike and the guys riding but I know things would get fixed if broken.
From there bike lanes through Saint Kilda to the Melbourne Formula One track in Albert Park dodging Ferrari's (I wish) and flat out down the pit straight I managed a screaming 48 km/h just before a coronary. A few more photos and back in the bike lanes to the city of Melbourne. A quick left to Docklands again and travelled with a Trike rider for a while. later on a right turn along the Federation trail track that follows the Mooney Ponds creek trail but unfortunately some of it was flooded from the previous days rain. After a few detours here and there i took the turn off to the Maribyrnong river trail and headed towards home.
Of course you all want the proof...
