Riding with the hardcores

Two weeks with only a few days of riding left me wanting, no... needing to really beat myself up. Of all the groups going out today, only one had anything close to what I did in mind and that was the 4 group, the most hardcore guys and girls. We started out and I was more than a little concerned about this, but I took solace in the fact I knew where they were going and if worse come to worse, I knew the way home.

The pace out of the start was pretty quick, but I was already warmed up from riding from home, so that was no problem. We passed the slower groups and pressed on toward Grand Terrace, which required a climb up Barton Hill. I went way out front knowing these guys would catch me on the climb. A few sure did, but not all. We got seperated as some waited for the slower riders, but myself and another three guys kept pushing on. The problem was, the super fast group went another way, so we were victims of getting dropped off the front. I ended up seeing them later, but I had been cruising visiting with a first time rider with our club I had encountered along the way that had gotten dropped by that group.

It ended up being three of us that did the full ride and got us 72 miles on the computer before we got home. I did get some kudos from some of the fast boys and girls for the Cruzbike and the way we performed together. I gotta quit this stuff.... People are starting to talk!

Wow! That sounds awesome Mark! I can't wait to get out... still cold here and snow around... but getting warmer each week. It's great to be able to keep up with the group.

Yeah, I thought we'd be hearing how he ducked into the loop, shmoozed with Levi and Lance for a few miles and then broke away when the course police asked for his UCI card.

I did not ride with the "hardcores" yesterday. I did 3mi downwind to Starbucks, another 3mi to the bike shop, shmoozed with "Boudreaux" the bike-shop dog and then beat back upwind until I got tired of being blown 2ft back for every yard forward. I did get a "cool bike" from the Girl Scouts selling cookies on a corner downtown.

Ah well, at least I was out riding! 15mi was good enough. :)
