S40 water bottle mount simplified

Sometimes simple just works. The boom mount is fine if you drink through your navel. Contorting my arm back over my head coasting downhill at 30mph seemed not much more enticing. One mounting bolt in the existing frame boss and a heavy duty zip tie and there it is. One on each side.

Brilliant! I have been thinking how to mount bottle holders after I replaced the stock seat with Thor. This is perfect.

I would suggest using a strip of aluminum connecting the two mounting holes on the rear stays and mount the bottle holder on the aluminum piece.

Hmm....

thinking how that might work with a rack in place? My current solution is the bottle on the boom with electrolytes and a bladder with water behind my head. I can have a second bottle in one of the seat back positions and swap out with the boom during a stop

Thats actually the long term plan. The zip tie was a first try. The rear most frame mount may be too high for convenient bottle placemet. Will see

You inspired me. I went to Home Depot, got a couple stainless steel pipe clamps, and made the water bottle mount strap.

upload_2018-7-1_12-42-31.jpeg For those with a who’ve changed to a Thor seat, bottle cage mounts can be added. I drilled holes into the Thor’s ribs and crimped rivet nuts with a dab of JB Weld glue for extra security. The carbon fiber is thin here, but I’ve had no cracks or pull-through on about 1000 miles with occasional rough roads. The Cruzbike Race Case has these rivet nuts on the sides.

I have similar on my M5 - GRP rather than CF, no issues at all. I've put them at hip height, but drilled into the outer face of the rib, so 90deg around from yours. The trick as always is drill a pilot hole first and then follow with the main drill

Best option so far for bottle cage mount on S40. Lower bolt screwed into the under-seat rack boss. 2 upper cage bolt holes zip tied together behind frame. Simple, works like a charm and easy to reach. And plenty aero for those interested in such things.

It is hard to tell from the angle since you have the bike on a work stand, but I think that you may experience unexpected ejection of your water bottle. You may want to consider adding a stem from the rack mount below your bottle for additional support. I cured my problem, and my cages are mounted slightly higher on the seat.

Was a little worried about bottle drop (certainly don't want anything of any kind unexpectedly ejecting from anywhere!) but seems to be working fine. Went on a 75-mile ride saturday with some pretty high speed descents (at least high speed for me!) and some very rough road in places including some tough railroad track crossings at 25 mph or so and both bottles stayed in place just fine. With the front tire on the floor the bottle sits at about a 30 degree angle above horizontal (just couldn't seem to find my middle school protractor). The earlier version in the OP worked well and held bottles securely but was just too much of a reach to get to the bottles while riding. This location seems to work much better for me. With two large bottles in these cages and a short bottle on the boom-mounted cage (to avoid getting poked in the belly) I can carry and easily reach about 75oz of hydration - good for a solid 3 hours without a need to stop . . . except of course if I have to stop to shed some of that hydration . . .

I followed this path, but instead of using the hose clamps, I cannibalized some aluminium bars that I found in my office desk drawer that are normally used for holding up file folders. Wrapped them with black vinyl, trimed and drilled:
