S40 with an unwanted automatic transmission

I have a generation 6 S40 with SRAM Apex components.

When I attempt to climb a hill and have it in the lowest possible gear, as I increase the force of peddling, the bike will automatically change into a higher gear (or two).

Any thoughts on the matter? I have less than 1000 miles on the bike and can’t see visually any issues with parts that may be contributing to this.

It’s just not the thing you wanna have happen at that time.

Mine was doing that. I increased the shift cable tension using the barrel adjuster. I did it 1/4 turn increments. I ended up needing about 3/4 turn to stop it completely. Apparently happens as new cables stretch. This was same on my upright.
