So how about this to start with? A chap by the name of Crispin Sinclair (not Sir Clive), has come up with a bike design he actually spent some time with MIRA both testing and simulating. Plus he lists the inestimable Mike Burrows as a co-contributor.

Doesn't look like it got past the funding stage, but it's the first time failure modes have been simulated or tested so far as I can tell.
 
yeah, this was much derided on another forum I inhabit. Fits the design brief but practicality called into question

Not only safe but secure. Easy to lean it against a lamp-post and thread a lock through the cage.

The cage is a nice place to bolt your mirror and your gopro.

You could fit a rain-proof cover. You would be blown all over the road. Which might result in your getting run over
