Now you have me thinking about this. I have a 155 Origin8 crankset that I'll put on this weekend to see if I like it. I remember gaining about 10rpm on my Baron with them but no real increase in speed.
What's your inseam? Just curious.I decided to join the party! Reduced to a 160mm crank - SRAM, since that what I have on all my bikes and they are easily moved around. Completed a little over 100k today and felt good. Over 4000’ of climbing as well and did not feel the loss of dropping from 170mm. Gearing is different now 46/33 from 47/35. Smaller crankset seemed to give a bit more control riding, easier to spin (which is my style of riding) and more maneuverable in tight spaces. I was surprised that 10mm would be that noticeable. For my height and inseam/xseam I was afraid to go lower than 160
34 pants, 35 or so measuredWhat's your inseam? Just curious.
This is what I bought from Croder for my Q45:I'm a bit confused. I'd like to order a Croder crankset for my S40 soon. Do I also need to order a bottom bracket (BB), or can my local bike shop match the appropriate BB for me? If I need to order it, which BB from the Croder website should I choose? I'm still hoping there will be some kind of Black Friday discount, but it seems like it might not happen after all.

Thanks @Black Hawk Down
Today is the last day of the promotion (- 20%)I bought a 145 mm crankset with 46/30T chainrings. I also got a BSA bottom bracket – the one you recommended. The total came to 9450 NT$, which converts to $290
I don't have a Croder but I have tried some Chinese short cranks. The issue is most likely due to a change in the chainline.I hope they work out for you. I had a lot of trouble with my chain falling off the large ring when shifting from the small ring. I don't really know what to blame. I have Shimano Ultegra freewheel, rear and front derailleurs. I decided on converting to a Rohloff freehub so I won't be able to debug it further on my Q45. I put all the drivetrain except the Croder cranks back on my V20, which has Ultegra cranks and chainrings and it works great. I may try the Croder cranks on my S40 when I get around to it to see if I can get them working properly.. If you also have chain drop problems, come back and let us all know.
I tried shimming the cranks both directions with no improvement.I don't have a Croder but I have tried some Chinese short cranks. The issue is most likely due to a change in the chainline.
Most times when one changes a crankset model, the chainline may never be really identical to the original ones that were on the bike. It may place the chainrings slightly further inward or outward. The issue may be fixed by putting some spindle washers (if the crankset has some allowance), and/or then adjusting the front derailleur to match.

Hi Damien, another future S40 user from Poland here! Can you share your experiences with this crankset? My S40 frameset is on its way already and now I try to figure out what would be the best gear combination for me. What kind of derailleur and cassette is installed in your S40? I'm thinking about Shimano 105, the chainring 50/34T + C11-36T to keep option for the higher speeds on downhill, like on my regular race bike. But just wondering if 34T will be enough to climb. I will be very thankful for any suggestions, obviously from the other forum members as wellMy order from Croder just arrived – straight from Taiwan in just 4 days, which is super fast. I must admit, it looks like a very high-quality product. I don’t have a Rotor crankset on hand to compare directly, but this is definitely on that level – and at a much lower price. The weight of the complete 145 mm crankset with 46/30T chainrings is 670 g, and the bottom bracket weighs 91 g. Installation will probably have to wait until March when I’ve gathered the remaining components for the full bike upgrade.

It was very log wayWelcome @jarek to the Cruzbike family!
I'm glad there will be more of us in Poland. I have a question – did I somehow contribute to your decision? Maybe you saw me at a brevet or in a YouTube video and thought, “I want one too”?
As for the crankset and components, that’s a very personal choice – everyone has different needs. You can read about my setup here. We can also discuss it there to avoid going off-topic.

As Damien said it depends a lot on your background. For me, never a great climber, a 34 ring was always too large so I quickly changed to a 46-30 compact (with 34 larger cog, on 650b wheels). Also consider crank arm length, most people prefer shorter cranks on recumbent, which calls for smaller ring as well - but you may be one of those who are happier with standard 170-175 mm cranks.Hi Damien, another future S40 user from Poland here! Thank you so much for your suggestion. Perhaps I will go first with the standard Shimano's crank but 165mm long and next I can judge if any shorter would be better. As Damien said it depends a lot on your background.
