Showers Pass Drinking System on V20 - What Do You Think?

I’ve been riding my V20 enough to finally be getting more comfortable on it. I’ve now completed numerous 50-60 milers, a few metric centuries and a couple 100 mile centuries. But drinking system options have continued to be a problem (still get shaky from death grip on the handlebars I guess :)). Numerous rest stops for drinking just adds too much time, especially on rides in the Texas heat when you need to get ‘er done! I did a bit of research and found the 42 ounce Shower Pass system available on sale (still, for $50). I had to add some Velcro straps to support the hanging weight, using plastic glue, and reinforcing by sewing the straps to the bag as well. Here is a photo. I took the photo before I had completed securing the upper portion of the drinking tube to the seat frame, so the tube doesn’t rub on the tire, as it appears in the photo.

I can provide more details if anyone is interested.

Looks great, if I didn't have my drink bottle hydration tube set up and wasn't a poor father to twins I would definitely consider this :)

I have three thoughts -
1) Much better than water bottles.
2) Looks like it might grip due to gravity.
3) That hose is pretty long. I'll bet the liquid warms up pretty fast in the tube (first couple of swallows are always warm?)

What do you think about cutting the host just long enough to go from the container to your head (maybe with a few inches of slack so you can look both ways while drinking), and clipping it up somewhere near the top of the headrest rather than underneath you? I think that's what I'd do.

FWIW, I have my hose clipped at the top of the seat/base of the headrest. I can reach over my shoulder and grab it pretty easily.

Looks good. Just make sure the hose doesn't rub on the tire and you should be good. That happened to me and I lost all my water. ;)

I guess it would help if I read the entire post before replying. Nice job. You should be able to go far now. :)

Done that before; search hydration for the posts with many other ideas but yours looks like a good option.

Notes:
  • A shorter hose and some velcro to hold it in place behind the head is advantagous.
  • Where you have it now is going to get really road dirty
  • The caribiner is weak and will break within about 10 rides. (I had 5 and they all broke)
  • If the long hose gets in the rear wheel you will likely crash ask @Eric Winn

My shortish hose slipped its clip once and hit the rear wheel. The wheel pulled off the bite valve (which a car then ran over), but no tangle or crash. Guess I got lucky there!

Indeed; PB had a similar experience; Eric on the other hand has the heart data graph to show his results. I believe that was his max HR for the year.
