Silvio 2.0 Boom & Slider Replaced

Sob! I removed my handlebar on my Silvio 2.0 to change a mount and discovered this crack on the boom where the handlebar clamps on!

That split goes almost half way across the boom, like it’s peeling off! I am lucky that it didn’t snap clean off while I was riding - that would have been catastrophic!

I suppose I need a replacement boom. This is a 5 year old bike - the Silvio 2.0 - the first hydroformed frame. Can Cruzbike advise me on replacement part?

Is there anyone who has a Silvio 2.0 or 2.1 boom around?

Dang, that sucks. :(

If you can't find a boom, then I bet you could get a new handlebar interface made and welded on to replace the current one.

It’s been a while since I last posted a picture of my Silvio. I have a carbon seat on her, and running Reynolds Assault disc wheels with TRP Spyre brakes. Really need that boom fixed now. Thanks for any help!

BTW, what seat bag is that? I had a rack on the back of my S30 and it's too much weight too high and far back with the trunk bag on top of it. So I'm using the big underseat bag, but I need a little more room for my regular commute gear.

Hi! I also have a question about that extended chainstay. Do you think you are more aerodynamic with it? What is your leg inseam?

Seat bag is a Revelate Designs Pika saddlebag. I move this regularly between my DF and my Silvio. You should be able to fit a bikepacking saddlebag on your S30 in a similar manner. Revelate is expensive but bulletproof stuff for off-road bikepacking. For commuting, you can probably get by with lower quality bags from Chinese manufacturers like Roswheel.

Handlebar is a profile bullhorn that was inverted and ends trimmed so they are flush with the shifters.

Yes, I am definitely more aero with the higher chainstay. I say this theoretically however, as I haven't ridden other Cruzbikes. My old Silvio 2.0 has a slightly lower seat angle of 27-28 deg, so especially with the high boom I am positioned similar to Vendetta aerodynamics. I can't remember my X-Seam but am 5'7" / 175cm height.

Robert (Cruzbike support) informed me that my old Silvio 2.0 boom is one of the early few that uses a narrower boom than the current crop. The OD of the fatter slider on my bike is approx 38.5mm - Cruzbike only had one production run of this narrower boom and slider and don't have any remaining in stock. Therefore I would have to replace multiple parts: boom, slider and clamp costing more than I had hoped though not outrageous.

Therefore, I am going to find out about getting the part repaired locally (I am in Singapore) and then decide which way to go. If not, I will cough up for the replacement parts at about US$300, with the advantage of getting the newer fatter boom with some minor changes to cable routing and the light mount. She’s been a great bike for just over 5 years.

When they repair the boom, get extra reinforcement on the four bolt engagement areas so the handle bar bolt stress are reduced.

So close, but so far!
You can get 38mm short stems. They were made for freeride and downhill MTB's. I have one one on my 38.1mm boom. And the bar clamp is 31.8.

Might also work if the ID of your boom is similar to the OD of the extension part of a another stem, you could weld it into the end of the boom if the broken clamp was removed.

Well, I have the new boom and slider installed on my Silvio now. It feels REALLY good to have the bike back working and dialed in again. I think I shall call her the S26 now that she has some new parts and the seat angle is 26 deg - a little lower than the S30! I have the current/new carbon seat and stronger headrest clamps that came out after the S2.0 -- but of course I still retain the older style dual suspension and carbon stays! She is 5 years old now but still a beauty. Except that the new graphics on the boom are much more modern than the not-as-nice font choices on the frame. Maybe I should get some stickers printed to cover the old white lettering with silver designs to match the the new logo!
