Just completed Silvio 2.0 build which arrived Tuesday (2-day shipping!!). Will be doing shakedown and tuning next...

Thanks for all the previous posts of the Silvio 2.0 builds. Made the build super easy. The only problem i had was that I needed to file-open one of the holes for the rear carbon stays as the hole was mis-aligned. Seems to be a common thing for this Silvio 2.0.

I bolted the fiberglass seat to the frame as per Vendetta 2.0 instructions.

specs:
  • Silvio 2.0 build kit
  • wheelset - chinese carbon 50mm x 23mm
  • tires - panaracer t-serv 25mm
  • brakes - sram red black edition f/r
  • front derailleur - sram red 2013 yaw
  • rear derailleur - sram force wifli
  • crankset - sram red 2013 10 speed 50/34 165mm
  • cassette - sram pg1070 11-32
  • brifters - sram force 2013
extras:

  • shower pass veleau hydration system (http://www.showerspass.com/about-veleau)
  • zefal spy mirror x2
  • niterider lumina 650 headlight
  • viewpoint flashpoint ultra taillight x2
  • garmin edge 500 cyclocomputer with ant+ speed and cadence sensors

Super cool.

I wonder if the headlight will work out mounted on the handlebars as you have it. You may find that it either hits your legs when you pedal, or that the beam is often obscured by your legs.

I'm curious how you manage

I'm curious how you manage the drinking tube in your ?shower pass veleau hydration system. Do you just drap it up over your shoulder or run it somewhere else?

headlight

the headlight doesn't hit my legs, but it will probably cause a strobe light effect as by legs/feet spin which would be annoying. I will probably fabricate an aluminum mount on the bottom bracket using those 2 holes...

drinking tube

eric,

i'm yet to figure it out, but most likely i'll clip the tube holder to my shirt, it has a retractable cable to hold the tube, and the tube can be cut to desired length

Looks like the light mount

Looks like the light mount arms are long enough you could rotate everything down and forward and have the light housing out of the sight line from your eyeballs straight down the boom to the road. And I think it would further reduce or totally eliminate "foot flash" from reflected light off your feet.

Kind of hard to tell though without seeing you fully reclined in the bike.

Really nice build. I like what you've done with the red and black color theme.

Do you have a link to your wheel source? I'm curious about them. Seems like you could improve night time visibility by doing on a smaller scale the fire and ice treatment like Ed did on his Quest in this post over on BROL. But in your case maybe create some sort of tasteful daylight visible red design that becomes highly reflective at night.

These might not be to your taste, but with your red on black them if they could be sized correctly, one or two of these guys or these running around on your rims might be kind of cool.

added more red bling and wheel decals

Eric,

bought the wheels from ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/221209365026?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Thanks for the wheel graphics suggestion, I put on some temporary decals on the carbon rims until my brother finishes up a design he is doing which will have the cruzbike and their logo as well as some graphics. Don't know when he'll get done.

I also added a little more red. Still thinking a little more red around the headrest area, may paint the metal tubes red, don't know...

Thanks for your suggestion about the headlight, I'll take see how it is if I rid at night.

Flag

Nice look. This is sort of like 'Pimp My Ride' for Silvios.

Don't you think that the flags should be Australian instead of the USA? The bike originated there after all.

Your bike screams "get out of

Your bike screams "get out of my way"! If it were mine, I'd mount a small red u-shaped cow-catcher using those BB holes (sort of like what you see on some SUVs). You could then mount a few spotlights, strobes, horns or what have you. Just kidding - your bike is awesome. Hope to see a video of those wheels in action. Great build.

The Freakin' Chain is Red!!!!

That is one pimped out Silvio.

I like it! :D

So your red hubs and red

So your red hubs and red spoke nipples were part of your wheel purchase right? And as Charles noticed, where or how in the world did you get red links in your chain?

Where did you find the red skewers? They look like a good color match.

I'm also wondering about your braking surface and your brake pad material. I've read that carbon brake surfaces will last longer than aluminum brake surfaces only if you use the correct brake pad material. Otherwise they supposedly will wear out faster than an aluminum brake surface. I don't know what the right material is, I'm still looking. Do you know?

I think if I try carbon rims, I'd be more inclined to switch to disc brakes.

It's looking good. Don't overdo it though and I want to see it with some road grime and tire wear mister!

Yes, the wheel was assembled

Yes, the wheel was assembled with the red hubs and nipples, includes skewers.

The red chain is a KMC x10 10 speed chain from Taiwan, bought through ebay. Most of the stuff on the bike is Taiwan/China.

I'm using Reynolds blue brake pads, don't know about the rims lasting, just got it since it's cheap compared to name brands.

This ebay seller below sells disc hubs with carbon rims either 130mm or 135mm drive wheel, kind of heavy at 1680g:

Yeah, over did it (pimp my Silvio, haha), but I figure better for the automobiles to see it and advertise Cruzbike

....

Here's a video of the wheel spinning, (with reflective red and white vinyl) when I get the decals finalized might be good visibility at night:

Eric, I'm currently riding my other recumbent a Meta-bike Metaphrastic (deciding if I should get their new carbon frame), but will start riding and comparing the Silvio more, both are great bikes in their current form.

This Silvio will be right at

This Silvio will be right at home on the set of Fast And Furious 6! Just need to fix it onto the roof of similarly pimped Subaru WRX with seasucker bike rack!

wheels

Here's a similar wheelset for disc brakes which weighs in at about 1400g (w/o skewers):
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/700c-carbon-disc-wheels-clincher-50mm-road-bike-wheelset-3k-12k-ud-with-Novatec-D711SB-D722SB/111272_715899625.html

But the final weight would change of course if you didn't go with 20/24 spokes which may be not ideal for disc brake wheels.
